About me

It can be a daunting process finding the right counsellor for your own unique situation and experience.

I place the relationship between client and counsellor at the heart of effective therapy and believe it is important that you find a counsellor you feel comfortable sharing your thoughts and feelings with.

At our initial session we will discuss what you would like from therapy. It also offers an opportunity for us to meet, to help you decide if I am the right counsellor for you and for me to ensure that I have the right experience to meet your needs. I offer this initial session at a reduced fee.

Clients come to me for many reasons including struggles with anxiety, relationship issues, past events they are struggling to come to terms with, loss and grief, guilt, depression, overwhelm and also to gain a greater understanding of themselves.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have many years experience of counselling individuals with a range of problems. I gained my Advanced Diploma in Integrative Humanistic Counselling (BACP Accredited) in 2008 and have more recently received a Diploma in Transactional Analysis from UKATA.

I am a professional member of BACP, UKATA and EATA and abide by their code of ethics. I am professionally supervised by a UKCP registered supervisor as part of my commitment to ethical practice.

My theoretical approach is Transactional Analysis and I incorporate some CBT techniques into my work when appropriate.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

UKATA
UK Association for Transactional Analysis (UKATA)

UKATA (formally the Institute of Transactional Analysis) is the national UK Transactional Analysis organisation representing all fields of TA theory and practice. TA can be used as an effective tool in a wide range of contexts such as: personal development, management, coaching, counselling, psychotherapy, teaching, education, parenting and more.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
