About me

Welcome! I'm Julie, I'd like to offer you a warm and welcoming space to talk about anything that is taking up too much headspace for you.

Life can be tough, sometimes it can be hard to talk openly to family and friends. I offer a safe, confidential and non judgemental space to talk things through. To be really heard and understood gives confidence to delve deeper, to look at things that feel to have been pushed into a dark corner, to find a way of moving forwards.

I'm a qualified and accredited person centred counsellor with a love of people in all their diversity, quirkiness and contradictions.

Availability
I work Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays through much of the year from an easily accessible office in Keighley, a lift is available, it is wheelchair friendly.

I mostly work face to face, but I offer video or phone sessions as clients prefer.

I also offer Home visits and walk and talk therapy after a longer assessment process.

Counselling sessions are 50 minutes long.

Practice description
I work with you towards your aims, at your pace. It's really important for me, for you to be comfortable and feel at your ease in a counselling session.

As well as being a person centred (or humanistic) counsellor, I sometimes explain parts of human psychology to clients to help them view what they are experiencing is a normal reaction to an abnormal event.

My counselling practice is called 'Ere for you, I aim to be precisely that.

I specialise in working with low self worth, all forms of bereavement (including by suicide), life transitions (divorce, retirement, redundancy, children leaving the nest) low mood, fertility issues and miscarriage.

I have a lot of experience in working with identity issues, Autism, neurodiversity (I see as a superpower, rather than a disorder) trauma, relationships, work stress, addictive behaviours, adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse, narcissistic abuse, OCD and the menopause.

Before becoming a counsellor I worked as a Homestart volunteer helping families struggling or in crisis. I used to be a spokeswoman for the Miscarriage Association after a difficult journey to become a mother.

In my time off I'm a keen dog walker, coffee shop visitor, a trustee and volunteer for a charity that maintains a local listed park - with little funding and a lot of love .

Training, qualifications & experience

I qualified as a counsellor in 2019 with a Level 4 qualification in Person Centred Counselling, achieving accreditation status in 2021.

I have worked as a Bereavement counsellor since 2018 with Bradford Bereavement services, As an Associate counsellor since 2019 with AWC Counselling - now part of the Cellar Trust. I work with a lot of complex clients for both charities, with issues and topics such as low self worth, identity, neurodiversity, domestic abuse /gaslighting, anxiety and low mood.

I am very keen on continuous lifelong learning and aim to expand, widen and deepen my knowledge of issues that affect my clients.

My working life before becoming a counsellor was as a Sales Office manager, In Technical Sales and as a Recruitment Consultant.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
