About me

My name is Julie Armitage and I am an experienced BACP Accredited counsellor.

I have my own private practice in the Holme Valley called Inner-Strength where I work at different hours during the week to accommodate my clients.
I take pride in the wide range of people I have helped to resolve their own, very personal issue's.

We can do this by working together in a safe, confidential environment where you will have the opportunity to explore thoughts and feelings that you may be struggling to understand or to cope with.

The therapeutic experience I offer to my clients enables them to move from a position of pain and confusion to one of acceptance and self awareness. I am both determined and committed to helping people and it never ceases to amaze me how courageous and brave people are in working through their problems.

Training, qualifications & experience

I gained my ABC level 4 Diploma in theory and practice of counselling in 2008 and I continue to develop my education by attending on going training. I also have my BACP Accreditation which I gained in 2013.
As well as running my own private practice I have worked for the NHS in 4 of the local Dr Surgery's supporting people with a wide range of issues such as relationship problems, stress anxiety depression and mental health problems.
My experience to date also includes supporting people who have experienced sexual abuse and domestic violence this work has occurred at Barnsley Sexual Abuse and Rape Crisis Service (BSARCS) and the Sexual Assault Referral Center in Rotherham.
I have now been awarded my Mindfulness Instructor Diploma from Kindmind and have started to run short courses using Mindfulness as a tool to help with stress and anxiety.
From April 2018 I now offer a monthly group SAS (support after suicide) which runs the first Wednesday in every month to support family and friends who have been affected by suicide.
I am able to also offer EMDR sessions.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
