About me
If you’re feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or carrying more than you can manage alone, you don’t have to face it by yourself.
My name is Joy Dalton, founder of Redcar Counselling Services, a private therapy practice based in Redcar, also offering sessions in Stockton, providing warm, professional support for adults and young people.
I have many years’ experience as a Counsellor and Psychotherapist, including work within NHS Talking Therapies. I support people experiencing anxiety, depression, bereavement, trauma, domestic violence and sexual abuse. I also have professional and personal experience of working with neurodivergent individuals, including autism and ADHD.
Therapy with me is about meeting you as you are. You may be looking for emotional support, personal or spiritual growth, or a more direct approach such as EMDR. Or you may simply want a safe, confidential space to be heard and understood.
You don’t have to be in crisis to need support. Sometimes you just need space to pause, reflect, and understand what’s happening inside your mind.
I created a free worksheet and breathing exercise to download to support exactly that https://redcarcounsellingservices.co.uk/beyond-the-therapy-room/
Redcar Counselling Services also includes associate therapists who work to the same values of safety, compassion and ethical practice. To support timely access to therapy, appointments can be offered with myself or with one of the therapists within the service.
My approach
I work in a warm, genuine and person-centred way, offering a safe, confidential and non-judgemental space. My role is to help you explore what is happening for you and support you to find a way forward that feels right.
Taking the first step
You don’t have to be certain about starting therapy to reach out. Sometimes the first step is simply a conversation to explore whether support might feel helpful for you.
I offer a free 15–20 minute introductory call, with no pressure or obligation.
You can also book a one-off initial session at a reduced rate of £40 to explore what has brought you to therapy.
There is no “one size fits all” approach to therapy. Some people come weekly, while others prefer fortnightly or monthly sessions depending on their situation.
Sessions are available in person, online or by telephone.

A final note
Therapy is not always easy, but it can be deeply life-changing. Supporting people through that process remains a privilege.
Warmest wishes,
Joy

Member organisations
school Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
