Senior Clinical Psychologist

About me

I am a fully registered clinical psychologist who was trained in New Zealand and currently works as a senior clinical psychologist for the NHS. I pride myself on being approachable, friendly, and someone who genuinely cares about those that I work with. I am keen to work with anyone who wants to make a positive change, to work on something that’s always bugged them, or to understand themselves a bit better so they can thrive. I want to be led by your goals. I have experience working with clients with a broad range of goals, from working on depression and anxiety to psychosis or wanting to understand their neurodevelopmental needs more (things like ADHD or Autism). Coming from New Zealand, I was trained biculturally, which has taught me to take any worldview into account - so I hope anyone working with me can be authentically themselves.

While I am a specialist psychologist working largely with neurodevelopmental differences (for example, learning disabilities, ADHD, autism), I have significant experience working with individuals who struggle with depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, psychosis, trauma, personality disorders, sleep, and so forth. However, many experiences don't fit neatly into categories, and any work we would do together would be tailored to your individual experience and goals.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have completed seven years of formal psychology training at Victoria University of Wellington in New Zealand from 2015 to 2022. In the first four years I completed my Bachelors and Honors degrees in Psychology, and then spent the following three years doing my clinical psychology training (called a PGDipClinPsych in New Zealand) alongside my forensic psychology Masters which has been recognised by the HCPC (our regulatory board in the UK) to be at an equivalent level to the DClinPsy training here in the UK. During my training, I completed a number of placements working with adults and children, and also worked in our maximum security prison in New Zealand for a year.

Following completing my training in 2022, I moved to the UK and became registered here as a clinical psychologist. I then began working for the NHS as a clinical psychologist within our inpatient forensic services. I have since become a senior clinical psychologist working in our Learning Disability and Autism service, where I work on a National Autistic Society accredited ward. Throughout my professional career, I have continued my professional development to learn additional therapeutic models and approaches.

While I was primarily trained in CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy), I also have experience with a range of other modalities such as DBT (dialectical behavioural therapy) and ACT (acceptance and commitment therapy). Again, I believe that any work should be tailored to you and we can discuss what approach we will take together and why.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

HCPC
Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)

The HCPC are an independent, UK-wide health regulator. They set standards of professional training, performance and conduct for 16 professions.

They keep a register of health professionals who meet their standards, and they take action if registered health professionals fall below those standards. They were created by a piece of legislation called the Health Professions Order 2001.

Registration means that a health professional meets national standards for their professional training, performance and conduct.
