About me

You've probably looked at loads of profiles on here - I know I did - so I'm going to try and make this easier for you.

Are you finding life difficult because you:

  • are always on the lookout,
  • are anxious for no logical reason,
  • are outwardly confident while inwardly frightened,
  • have relationship difficulties,
  • have recurrent nightmares and/or flashbacks
  • have emotional responses which are hard to explain,
  • don’t feel at home anywhere,
  • keep parts of your life secret,
  • worry about your possessions,
  • worry about other peoples perceptions of you,
  • need to just ‘suck it up’ when things are difficult,
  • need to always try harder
  • talk to yourself harshly
  • feel that you are never good enough,
  • feel danger even when there isnt any,
  • sometimes want to hide,
  • avoid getting medical help,
  • and even though you’ve read this list and silently ticked off several of them, are thinking “I dont really need counselling.”?

Many of them are indicators of a trauma response and/or boarding school syndrome.

I work with people who have experienced all of them, and so I think I might be able to help you too.

You’re probably thinking “Oh, you would say that!”. And that’s a wise response. So try me. You can have a free 30 minute call with me to ask any questions you like before deciding. Just go to jonathanrees.co.uk and click the big green button to arrange your call (sorry, that's not a link). All it will cost you is some time and it might make all the difference.

I’ve been in your shoes and I understand what it feels like when you choose to find someone to share your troubles with. You don't have to deal with it alone. I can help you.

“I feel much better than I have in a long time because of your support… “ (Bereaved Autistic client)

When you go to my website, you can book an initial informal conversation for free to decide if we're a good fit for working together.

In the meantime, here are some questions people regularly ask.

  • Do you work with people affected by boarding school? Yes, I have first-hand experience of surviving boarding, and use SE techniques to support similar clients.
  • Do you work with people who are neurodivergent? Yes, I have first-hand experience of autism and ADHD and will work with you to make counselling work as best as I can for you.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
