About me

Hi there. My name is Joanne and I’m glad you are taking the time to look at my page.

You may be feeling anxious or suffering low mood as you read these words or feeling stuck, lonely and not sure who to turn to for support.  I appreciate the courage it takes to step into the world of counselling. If things are difficult for you, I want to reassure you that you don’t have to feel alone. It can be helpful to talk to someone who is impartial, non-judgemental and who places you in the centre.

With a background in teaching and career counselling, I trained to become a Person-Centred counsellor because I wanted to have the time and space to listen more. As a registered member of the BACP, I work within their ethical framework to deliver counselling that is safe, professional and accountable.

In our sessions, I will encourage you to talk openly about any issue you wish to and I believe I have created a nurturing space- both literally and figuratively - in which you can do this. I work from a tranquil room in central Glasgow but I also offer online sessions. Being a firm believer that the client knows best, I will be right beside you as you talk through whatever is going on for you in your life. My commitment to you is to treat you with respect and compassion as well as being supportive but impartial. I will help you talk through your difficulties allowing you to gain some insights into dealing with life’s challenges as well as helping you to form happier relationships.

Specialisms

My specialisms include working with clients who clients who are experiencing difficulties with anxiety, depression, self esteem or relationship issues.

Women's Health

I also have a particular interest in supporting women who are struggling with fertility issues or the menopause. Women can face both physical and emotional challenges when navigating such issues and  I will endeavour to support you throughout.

Think Feel Talk

I am part of a counselling practice Think Feel Talk which encourages and empowers you to have the space to think, feel and talk in your own time. As a person-centred counsellor who is both compassionate and empathic, I believe I can support you in your self-reflective process.

How to get started

If you think you’d be interested in working with me, please email or call me to book an initial free 20 minute chat. This will allow you to ask any questions and get a feel for whether we might be a good fit.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
