About me

I am an accredited, integrative therapeutic counsellor, finding that working in this way, gives uniqueness with each client, connecting in a way that is best suited to them as an individual.

I have extensive experience, working with a variety of clients, of all ages.

I offer counselling support to individuals, couples, children, young people and families, assessing each person’s situation, offering a calm, non-judgemental and confidential environment.

In my work with children, I am aware of building a safe, trusting environment, as at times they may be lacking in confidence, experiencing anxiety or are having difficulties in relationships. I have worked in supporting children and young people through bereavement, with death, endings, loss, divorce and separation.

My sessions will always go at the client’s pace and recognise that this may be a new experience for some, with the uniqueness of having a space to be ‘heard’ and listened to. I have a flexible, calm approach, respecting how difficult it may have been to have made contact for support.

Through exploring what may be taking place in a client’s life at that time, awareness and changes begin to take place, which can be empowering for a client.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have the following qualifications but also attend regular workshops, conferences etc. throughout the year to update my continual professional development.

Certificate in Counselling Skills

Certificate in Therapeutic Counselling

Advanced Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling

Post Qualifying Diploma in Counselling Children and Young People

Certificate in Supervision

N.N.E.B.

I started my career path as a nursery nurse on a maternity unit, supporting mothers with the care of their babies and in later years, having gained my qualification as a counsellor managed the counselling service at Poole Maternity Unit. In this role, I also supported S.P.R.I.N.G [Supporting Parents and Relatives In Neonatal Grief].

I have worked as a pupil and family support worker in a primary school, a sessional worked with children in care and owned and managed a residential care home for 25 years. It was at this time when I recognised the support I was giving to residents, their families and staff and decided to gain a formal qualification, to assist communication and to be able to offer a therapeutic space

In the last ten years, I have worked at a hospice, supporting patients and their families, through pre bereavement, at end of life, and post bereavement, working with many areas of grief.

Member organisations

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
