About me

You don’t need to be in crisis to come to therapy.

You don’t need a diagnosis, a particular problem, or even to know exactly why you’re here. Sometimes there is simply a feeling that you would like to understand yourself differently - or have somewhere that, perhaps for once, is entirely yours.

Perhaps you’ve spent a long time being the person who copes.

We become very good at adapting. We learn what is expected of us, what keeps the peace, what other people need from us and sometimes, without really noticing it happening, our own voice becomes harder to hear.

At Boyne Therapies, I won’t tell you who you are, what you should feel or what you should do. I believe that you are the expert on your own experience, even when it might not feel that way.

My role is to meet you with warmth, curiosity and without judgement, creating a relationship in which we can explore whatever you bring.

There is no expectation to perform therapy “properly”, to arrive knowing what to talk about, or to move at anybody’s pace but your own.

Boyne Therapies takes its name from the River Boyne, and the river has become an important part of how I think about therapy.

A river doesn’t travel in a straight line. It changes course, encounters obstacles, sometimes becomes turbulent and sometimes becomes still - but all of it belongs to the same journey.

I think people can be a little like that too.

Therapy isn't about turning you into somebody else. It can be an opportunity to understand how you arrived where you are, reconnect with parts of yourself that may have become lost along the way, and begin discovering what feels right for you.

I offer 50-minute counselling and psychotherapy sessions for adults aged 18+, online and in person in Birmingham.

You don’t need to know where the journey is going before you begin.

Experience

My counselling experience spans adult, educational and community settings, providing both longer-term one-to-one counselling and therapeutic support.

I have worked with a diverse range of adults and with young people across education and community environments.

Alongside my counselling practice, I have several years' experience working relationally with young people within community settings.

Before becoming a counsellor, I spent more than 20 years working closely with people in roles where relationships, trust and communication were at the heart of what I did. I believe this experience has shaped the way I work today and my ability to meet people as individuals, build genuine relationships and create spaces in which people feel able to talk openly.

My experience across these different settings has brought me alongside people with very different lives, identities and experiences, and continues to inform the warmth, curiosity and openness I bring to my counselling practice.
