Jennifer Kennedy MBACP - Anxiety Therapist
Hi and welcome to my page.
As you're here it's likely your struggling with anxiety, depression or maybe low self esteem at the moment. This can be really challenging and difficult to face alone, it's good to reach out and share your difficulties with someone who can bring a fresh perspective and help you make sense of your experiences. My job is to help you really understand yourself including your thoughts and feelings and the underlying causes of repeating patterns in your life.
Therapy helps you understand why negative patterns keep coming up and become more aware of what situations trigger difficult feelings. If you find yourself in similar situations over and over which cause you to feel anxious, down or bad about yourself it may be that these issues have their roots in the past. By exploring and understanding how and why these patterns came about you'll be in a better position to change them. The process can be challenging at times as we learn how to relate to ourselves with greater awareness and self-compassion. Therapy requires a desire for change and commitment to breaking free of old habits so you are free to create a life you're happy with.
Online therapy is an effective, convenient and flexible way to have your sessions. It takes place on skype, zoom or video call so you'll need a good internet connection and quiet, confidential space to take the call. The initial session is an assessment to discuss what brings you to therapy and to familiarise you with working online. If we are able to work together further sessions will be booked from there. I see people on a weekly basis online.
How I work
I'm a BACP registered Integrative Psychotherapist which means I use a blended style of therapy including Transactional Analysis Psychotherapy, person centred counselling, mindfulness and body-orientated and somatic therapies. The therapeutic relationship forms the basis of the work and I will share with you a range of techniques and models to help you understand yourself at a deeper level and the reasons you get stuck in unhelpful situations, thoughts or emotions.
I also use mindfulness and somatic therapy which helps you to connect to your body and emotions. Quite often if we've experienced developmental or specific traumas the emotions which accompany this can become stuck in your body and cause ongoing symptoms of physical or mental illness. Reconnecting to the emotions and physical body is an important aspect of my work. It is often this sense of internal disconnection that gives rise to s feeling of disconnection from others as well as anxiety, depression and other difficult states.
What happens in the first session?
The first session is an opportunity for you to explain what brings you to therapy and I'll explain a bit about how I work. The session takes place via telephone or video call and takes around an hour. If we agree to work together we will then book sessions from there.
Where I work
The sessions takes place on zoom, skype or video call. You will need a good internet connection and quiet, confidential space to take the call. Online therapy enables you to be flexible with location and can have you therapy session at home, work or even in your car.
I am a professional and effective therapist who will help you to understand and transform patterns which are holding you back or keeping you stuck in anxiety and low mood. Talking about how we feel is a powerful way to understand ourselves and make sense of our lives. Through the process of sharing our experiences we can begin to work out why we feel stuck and the changes that need to be made to move forward. I work at depth to explore the underlying reasons for long term anxiety or depression and therefore the therapy generally takes place on a medium to long term basis.
