About me
Welcome, I'm Jen.
If you're looking for counselling because you're grieving, feeling lost, struggling with later life, living with an eating disorder, or simply carrying more than you can manage on your own you're very welcome here.
Perhaps someone important to you has died and life doesn't feel recognisable anymore. Perhaps retirement hasn't brought the peace you expected. Maybe you're caring for someone else, facing challenges to your health, struggling with your relationship with food, or wondering who you are now that life looks very different to how you imagined.
Many of the people I work with are older adults, particularly those navigating major life changes, loneliness or a feeling that life has become unfamiliar. I also work with men, who may have spent years putting everyone else first and aren't quite sure how to begin talking about themselves.
I also support people affected by eating disorders. I understand how complicated these struggles can be - not just for the person experiencing them, but for the people who love them too. This is an somethingI have lived experience of and continue to deepen through specialist training.
Whatever has brought you here, you don't need to have everything figured out before we meet. Most people don't. We simply start wherever you are.
Training, qualifications & experience
I hold a Post Graduate Diploma in Counselling and Coaching, which supports my ability to work both therapeutically and in a forward focused developmental way when helpful. I am also a member of the BACP and abide by their code of ethics.
I have particular experience of supporting people through bereavement, helping individuals navigate the complex emotions of grief and loss
I also have an interest in supporting older clients and those in mid-life navigate life transitions, identity, purpose and changing relationships. This stage in life may also involve an increase in caring responsibilities - together we can try to explore the complex emotions involved in this.
I also have experience of supporting people who's relationship with food and body image has become problematic. This is an area I have lived experience of an continue to deepen my therapeutic knowledge through specialist training.
I am not limited by these areas though and welcome clients facing a range of issues
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information
I'm a real person before I'm a counsellor.
I have purple hair, 4 cats a very tolerant husband, a love of long walks and far too many art supplies. Life has also taken me through some difficult places of my own.
I mention this because choosing a counsellor is personal and the relationship we have together is important. I hope sharing this gives you a small sense of who you'll be meeting.
