About me
EMDR and Trauma Therapist Specialising in Childhood Trauma, Narcissistic Abuse, Coercive Control, DARVO & Adult Trauma
Hello, I’m glad you’re here, my name is Janine and I am an experienced counsellor/therapist who works with adults and young people from my therapy room at Pioneer House, Ellesmere Port. I offer face to face and online appointments during daytime hours, evenings and Saturday. I work online via zoom for clients countrywide or telephone.
Reaching out for support can feel like a big step, especially if you’ve spent a long time coping on your own. I offer a warm, supportive, and non-judgemental space where you can talk openly about your experiences and begin to make sense of how they may still be affecting you today.
I specialise in working with individuals who have experienced childhood trauma, narcissistic or emotionally abusive relationships, and adult trauma. Many of the people I support grew up in environments where their emotional needs were not fully seen or met, or where they learned to prioritise others’ needs above their own. As adults, this can sometimes show up as anxiety, low self-worth, people-pleasing, difficulty setting boundaries, or feeling stuck in unhealthy relationship patterns.
Experiencing narcissistic abuse or manipulative relationships can leave people feeling confused, doubting their own reality, and questioning their self-worth. Therapy can provide a space to gently untangle these experiences, rebuild trust in yourself, and begin to reclaim your voice and sense of identity.
I also work with individuals processing traumatic experiences in adulthood, including relationship trauma, workplace stress, and situations that have left lasting emotional impact. Trauma can affect how we think, feel, and respond to the world around us, but with the right support it is possible to process these experiences and develop healthier ways of coping.
My approach is integrative, compassionate, collaborative, and tailored to you. I draw on therapeutic approaches such as Psychodynamic Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), EMDR, trauma-informed practice, grounding techniques, and psychoeducation to help you better understand the connection between your thoughts, emotions, and responses. Together we can work at a pace that feels safe for you, focusing on building emotional resilience, strengthening boundaries, and supporting your healing journey.
Above all, therapy with me is a space where you will be heard, believed, and supported. You do not have to navigate these experiences alone.
I work with clients for either long and short-term face to face or online therapy. Short term therapy can be for 6 – 12 sessions and can focus on CBT techniques to give you the tools and strategies you can incorporate into your life. Long term therapy is over a longer period of time and uses psychodynamic therapy to explore your past experiences and help you to understand the influence of your past on your present behaviour and find new ways for you to change the behaviours that no longer benefit you.
I offer a safe non-judgemental supportive space where we can explore your feelings and start to understand your thoughts in order to change them. I have extensive experience in working with clients with anxiety, depression, low mood, self-harm, suicidal ideation, couple relationship issues, trauma, narcissistic abuse and coercive control.
I am a member of the BACP and an accredited member of NCPS and I work within their ethical standards, framework and code of ethics. I have regular monthly supervision and continue to attend up to date training to enhance my counselling toolkit.
Relationship Counselling:
Do you find yourself resenting your partner and having unresolved conflicts? Resentments build up in relationships as we expect our partner to know what our needs are even if we have not told them. If this is happening in your relationship then therapy can help you to recognise and make changes so that you don't start to keep scores about who is doing what and using this as ammunition to justify your feelings. If you feel that your needs are not being met then this can also lead to feeling unloved or cared for which creates that emotional and physical separation, leading to intimacy issues.
As a qualified relationship Counsellor in private practice, I offer a safe, supportive, and confidential space for couples to explore their relationship and work towards greater understanding, connection, and emotional wellbeing. My aim is to help partners communicate more effectively, rebuild trust, and navigate challenges with empathy and respect.
I work with couples experiencing a range of difficulties, including recurring conflict, emotional distance, breakdowns in communication, intimacy issues, infidelity, and the pressures of life transitions such as parenthood, career change, or separation. Whether couples are seeking to strengthen their relationship or find a way forward through uncertainty, I provide a compassionate and balanced environment for both individuals to feel heard and valued
Many relationships struggle due to non-communication, infidelity, and intimacy issues. You may feel uncomfortable having these conversations with your partner and require a mutual space with a qualified therapist to work through this. Therapy can help you to work through issues with your partner and improve communication in a safe non judgemental space.
I also provide professional Critical Incident Support sessions for organisations, offering employees a safe and supportive space to talk about their experiences and begin to process the emotional impact of difficult events.
These sessions are designed to help individuals and teams understand their reactions, reduce distress, and support a healthy recovery following a traumatic incident.

In 2013 the NCS register was accredited by the Professional Standards Authority under the Accredited Voluntary Register Scheme. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
