About me
We come to crossroads in life that we never thought we’d ever be at. They can be painful and confusing, while, at the same time, reducing our confidence to deal with the fall out. I provide a safe, non-judgemental space where feelings and situations can be explored.
About me
I have been involved with counselling and psychotherapy for over thirty years. I have worked with Relate and in Higher Education, the latter having a high proportion of mature students is a reflection of the problems found in society at large. I have a small number of private clients and I offer short and longer term counselling and psychotherapy to individuals and couples. Therapy can be weekly or fortnightly.
Counselling/Psychotherapy
Very often in life people find themselves in a place of real frustration and distress, because they cannot always understand their emotions and reactions. Talking about problems externalizes them, they are shared and this gives us the opportunity to look at areas that can be frightening and uncomfortable, so that greater understanding can be achieved.
Therapy is not a magic solution, however, a trusting relationship with the therapist can allow issues to be explored, and we have the chance to get to know ourselves better, so that our options are informed choices.
I consider myself to be a down to earth and practical person. I work intuitively and I realise how difficult it is to uncover areas in our lives that are causing us pain.
Good therapy has clear boundaries, it is jargon free and respectful to the individual client who is always in control, however, it demands commitment from both client and therapist so that trust can evolve and a productive relationship can ensue.
Supervision
I have provided clinical supervision to counsellors for over twenty years. I see supervision as a collaborative process, where hopefully there is sufficient trust, between the individuals involved, to allow for creative play with the clinical material.

Member organisations
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).
Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.
Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.
All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
