About me
My name is Janey Templer-Milligan and I am a fully qualified Counsellor & Psychotherapist. I am a Professional Accredited member of the National Counselling Society (NCS) & hold a current Enhanced DBS certificate allowing me to work with both children & adults. I am fully insured. Apart from running my own private practice, I am also an Anxiety UK approved therapist; the Lead LGBTQ+ Ambassador for Swindon Domestic Abuse Support Services and a member of the Swindon Equality Coalition Committee.
I offer a free first session which allows me to gather information about yourself and what you would like from counselling. It also gives you the opportunity to see if you would be comfortable working with me. Talking can be difficult & challenging & I will ensure that you always feel safe with me which will enable a trusting relationship to exist. Trust is the foundation that can empower clients to begin to be able to talk about their lives & issues that affect them.
I believe in equality for everyone and work with clients regardless of age, gender, religion, ethnicity and sexual orientation.
What experience do I have?
I have considerable experience working with clients who have alcohol, drug and gambling addictions. Realising you have a problem is the first step to getting better but sometimes the hardest. People misuse substances or gamble for many reasons & particularly to lift their mood; help blot out past trauma or deal with overwhelming feelings.
I can help by exploring issues and how they affect you, your life and your health. By identifying triggers and issues counselling can help you to find ways to cope and overcome addiction and prevent any relapses.
I have also work extensively with clients who self-harm and self-injure, which is an often misunderstood and stigmatised behaviour. I can help you to get to the root of why you are harming and work to overcome your negative behaviour by developing coping strategies and find a more positive way of thinking and feeling about yourself and life.
I believe in equality & inclusion in our society and have many clients in the LGBT community. I help with the many issues that this marginalised group face in life as a result of rejection & homophobia within our society. I can help you explore your feelings around your sexuality and the issues you face to empower you to lead more fulfilled lives. I have expert knowledge on transgender people and deliver workshops to schools, colleges and organisations within Wiltshire on diversity.
I also offer support to family members who may have difficulty coming to terms with your sexuality or preferred gender
Training, qualifications & experience
I have a degree in Therapeutic Counselling from Gloucestershire University & a post-graduate diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy from Aylesbury College. I have supervision twice a month to ensure that I am working safely & ethically with each of my clients. I also have ongoing professional development & attend various workshops, training & seminars to enhance my knowledge & skills as a therapist.
I work with people who have Aspergers, Autism, Bipolar, Schizophrenia, Borderline Personality Disorders, depression, anxiety, PTSD, panic disorder, low self esteem & self worth. I also work with people who have been abused emotionally, physically & sexually & have a deep understanding of the damaging affects abuse has on the individual.
