Overview

Whatever is troubling you I will encourage you to tell me about it in a safe and nonjudgmental setting.  You can share things that perhaps you don’t want to talk to friends or family about.  Together we will endeavour to fully explore and understand your feelings,  reduce distress, and support you to move forward as you choose.

What is Counselling

Sometimes life can seem overwhelming and talking to a counsellor can help to get things into perspective.  Counselling offers you a secure space to explore what is going on for you,  with someone trained to listen carefully, with respect and really try to fully understand you and your feelings.  Counselling is not about someone “telling you what to do, giving advice, or simply granting your wishes” but can be about supporting you to explore your feelings and concerns which may then make decision making clearer.

Current crisis / deeper issue / Self Care

Surprisingly quite often the thing that brings a person to seek support e.g. some sort of current crisis may be a way in to understanding deeper causes of unhappiness, anxiety or depression. Sometimes people live with a feeling of "something just not being quite right". Counselling can help develop Self-Awareness which in turn can be life changing!  That’s the good news - but like most things in life it doesn’t happen without effort,  and can be painful.  However from personal experience I would say the results are definitely worth it!  So be brave,  aren’t you worth it?  Answering “Yes” to that question is the first step on your journey (with me by your side), to personal growth and hopefully increased happiness.  I look forward to hearing from you.

"Many a man would rather you heard his story than granted his request" Philip Stanhope. I am an attuned Counsellor ready to hear your story, to try to understand and make sense of it with you, and empower you to seek the solution you truly desire.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
