About me

About me and my therapy practice:

Hello, I'm Jane (she/her). Thanks for looking at my profile. I'm a qualified, integrative counsellor working with adults of all ages and young people from the age of 13. I work with kindness and compassion and a strong commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion.

A quick summary of my offer:

  • A free initial phone consultation so you can decide if I am the right counsellor for you.
  • Long-term or short-term counselling.
  • Face-to-face counselling sessions in Heaton Moor on Tuesdays, 6.30pm - 9.30pm and in Stockport on Thursdays, 9am and 3pm.
  • Online sessions on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday evenings, 7pm and 9pm.
  • My face-to-face and online counselling sessions cost £60 per session.
  • I am very happy to discuss concessionary rates for clients and trainee counsellors with a low income.

I understand that for all of us, life can, for many different reasons, feel overwhelming, confusing and lonely at times. I know how feelings of anxiety and depression can come to dominate day-to-day life including relationships, socialising, self-esteem, self-confidence, well-being, sleep, work and study.

My background:

I work from my counselling rooms in Heaton Moor and the centre of Stockport. Prior to this I provided counselling in a Cancer support centre serving the Northwest of England. I also work as a counselling lecturer teaching adults who are setting out on their journey to train as counsellors.

Alongside being a counsellor, I have worked in education and social care services for over 30 years providing support to adults and young people dealing with wide-ranging emotional challenges, different forms of loss and other life changing experiences.

It may be helpful for you to know that throughout my career I have worked with adults and young people with wide-ranging additional needs including those who are neurodivergent.

I have extensive experience of working with young people and adults with experience of being in Local Authority care and also of working with trans and non-binary young people, adults and their families.

My personal and professional experiences have shown me how counselling can help people with the difficulties they are experiencing, regardless of their background, sex, gender, age, sexuality, disability, religion or culture.

What to expect when you work with me:

I provide a safe, inclusive, nonjudgmental and confidential space for us to work together at your pace to explore your experiences, thoughts and feelings and to identify the changes you want to make in your life. Whoever you are and whatever you bring to our sessions, I will listen to you with respect and empathy.

How I work:

I know that making the decision to find a counsellor can be a huge step. It is really important that you find a counsellor with whom you can build a trusting relationship so that you can feel comfortable to talk freely.

I provide a safe, confidential and supportive space where we can begin to get to know each other and where you can talk about and explore your difficulties, worries and feelings. I will listen carefully to you with respect, empathy, genuineness and a non-judgemental attitude.

I am qualified as an integrative counsellor for adults of all ages and for young people from the age of 13. This means that I have been trained to use a combination of different therapeutic approaches including Person Centred Therapy (PCT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Transactional Analysis (TA). I draw on the most appropriate approaches to meet the needs of each client.

We will work together to decide how best to tailor our sessions to meet your individual needs. By listening to you, I will be able to select the most appropriate approaches to help you to talk about your thoughts, emotions and experiences and to work towards achieving the changes and improvements that you want to make in your life.

My private practice is fully insured and compliant with data protection regulations. I hold an enhanced DBS and I am a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).

I have worked with people from the age of 13 - 86. Clients of all ages have told me that they find me easy to talk to about their thoughts, worries and feelings. They have also told me that they have appreciated having someone to talk to outside their family, friendship group and their work or education setting.

Our first session

Whether this is the first time you have considered finding a counsellor or you have accessed counselling before, I understand that you may want to find out more about what I offer and how I work.

Before we agree to work together, I offer a free telephone consultation so that you can ask me any questions to help you to decide if I am the right counsellor for you.

If you are a parent or carer looking for a counsellor for a young person we can use our initial, free phone consultation to discuss the type of support needed and I can explain how I would work with the young person and how I would communicate with you as their parent or carer.

Paid counselling sessions will only begin if we both agree to proceed with working together. Once we have decided to begin working together we will agree a regular day and time to meet. Each counselling session will last for 50-minutes.

If our sessions are going to be in person, I will confirm the full address of my therapy room in Stockport. If our sessions are going to be online I will provide information about the online meeting platform we will use and how to join our online sessions. I will also take some information about you to ensure your safety and well-being.

I offer both short term and longer-term counselling. During our first session, we will agree how we will work together including an initial number of counselling sessions. We will also agree a date to review this to decide together whether to bring our work to a planned end or to further extend our sessions.

Please do get in touch to find out more. I look forward to hearing from you.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
