About me

My name is Jacqueline Knight, I am a Person-Centred Integrative Counsellor. Working with adults, young people, and children. I also specialise in Tinnitus and Hyperacusis counselling. I am registered with the BACP British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists.

I attained a BA Honours Degree in Counselling and Psychotherapy at the University of Central Lancashire, and I also have a Diploma in counselling. I also studied Humanities and Religion with the Open University.

I have a good understanding of the range of problems people may face which bring them to counselling. I have extensive experience working with individuals, groups and young people, dealing with a range of issues in a variety of settings over many years. I also have a special interest in Tinnitus and Hyperacusis counselling having had it most of my life and I understand and empathise with those that are struggling with this condition.

My approach to counselling offers the opportunity to explore different ways of looking at your life and helps you move towards more effective ways of coping. My aim is to support you on your journey to discover that you have the tools required to overcome these challenges.

I offer a safe and confidential space to help you find a way through the difficulties and struggles that you are experiencing in your life, in a compassionate and non judgemental environment.

My approach is caring, warm and collaborative and I have always had a real heart to help others. I have learnt that just being there to listen, and for them to be heard can mean more to someone than you can ever imagine.

"A smile, a kind word or a small act of kindness.... all have the potential to make a persons day" - Kyle Garrett

I offer remote sessions using Video calls, Skype, as well as telephone sessions.... I also see clients in person. I am able to be flexible around times. I am happy to offer a free 20 minute telephone consultation. I operate a private practice in my home. There is parking available, and a regular bus and train service runs nearby, if needed.

Training, qualifications & experience

My counselling Qualifications include a BA (HONS) in Counselling and Psychotherapy, a Diploma in Counselling, and I have studied Humanities and Religion with the open university.

I also have an enhanced DBS certificate, and Safe-guarding, Equality and Diversity certificates in both adults and children. I regularly undertake additional training and CPD (continuous personal development) in various subjects, Self harm, Bereavement counselling etc.

My main body of work is in counselling adults, in addition to this I have a special interest in working with young people. I have worked in a variety of settings with a range of people of all ages throughout my working life. I have gained valuable experience in counselling with SAFA (Self-Harm and Awareness in the Furness Area). and I also worked with MIND helping those with post natal depression and anxiety in which I organised support groups (Connecting Mums) in the Furness area.

During my studies I also worked as a trainee Counsellor at the Furness Homeless centre in Barrow-in Furness. where I gained relevant work experience and to better my understanding of substance abuse and addiction etc for my own professional development in support of my studies at this time. In doing so, I gained a valuable insight into understanding the importance of positive support and the family educational component structured within their prevention programme, by offering one to one support sessions with a variety of individuals who were being offered rehabilitative support through the services of which the homeless centre provided within our community.

I also have a special interest in Tinnitus having had it most of my life and I understand and empathise with those that are struggling with this condition. I can help you manage the effect that tinnitus has on your life by offering techniques that can help you deal with the anxiety and distress, Helping you understand your thought processes in relation to the condition so that your thoughts become more positive.

I also work as a counsellor for CancerCare and and I am passionate about my work there, as I know how multifaceted the effects of this illness can be, and the effects it can have on families, and friends.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Client testimonials

"I contacted Jacqueline due to suffering with Tinnitus for about 16 months. It was causing me considerable anxiety, sleeplessness and discontentment. Jacqueline has first-hand experience of the condition (as well as hyperacusis). Jacqueline helped me with coping techniques, as well as pointing me in the direction of useful products and experts in this field. I found her counselling style to be very straightforward, caring and practical and would certainly recommend her."
