About me
I am a registered and accredited counsellor with over 12 years’ experience and provide one to one counselling for adults of all ages both long- and short-term work.
I specialise in working with complex trauma, C-PTSD( complex post traumatic stress disorder) and disorders like BPD(borderline personality disorder) and DID(dissociative identity disorder).I have considerable experience of working with depression, anxiety, coping with loss and bereavement, panic attacks, anger issues, intense guilt, trauma, childhood sexual abuse and difficulty in relating to others. I also have experience working with clients on the Autistic spectrum or Asperger’s and family members.
My approach is psychodynamic and trauma informed theory. Most of us have at sometime experienced a very stressful, frightening or distressing event but may not of have had resources available to be able to process that concern.
We will look initially at your most pressing area of concern - the 'presenting' problem. We then usually look at your background and early experiences - allowing you to make links between how you are behaving and feeling now, and what has happened to you along the way. From here with new insights, deeper understanding and more freedom you will have more choices to respond to current situations rather than reacting from coping/survival mechanisms.
I love to see people grow and be free to be who they truly are!
Working together is about recognising we are all unique and therefore each relationship with a client is tailored and paced to what works best for them. We all learn differently and as well as talking things through I have strategies and creative techniques available.
I can offer appointments during the day Monday to Thursday my last appointment is 4.30pm.
I have my own private practise and additionally I am Director of counselling for Hope counselling Dundee.
I understand the prospect of coming for Counselling can be quite daunting so please feel free to call for an informal chat if that is helpful to you where we can discuss what you would like to gain from Counselling.
The initial appointment is an opportunity to discuss your concerns and look at the best way forward. During this appointment I will explain how counselling works and answer any questions you may have.
Once you are happy to proceed with counselling, I will ask you to sign a contract and establish clear boundaries. This explains my professional commitment to you in regard to:
· Date and times of appointments.
· The confidentiality agreement.
· The professional client/counsellor relationship.
· How and when to contact me outside of the sessions e.g., cancellation.
