About me
Schema informed CBT & EMDR Therapy – Specialist Support for OCD and PTSD evidenced based.
I’m Henry Coombes, an EMDR, Schema focused CBT therapist based in Glasgow, and an accredited member of the BABCP. I have extensive training and clinical experience supporting adults with anxiety, depression, OCD, PTSD, and related difficulties, including three years at the Priory Hospital working closely with leading therapists and Consultant Psychiatrists. My approach is warm, collaborative, and grounded in evidence-based therapies.
Therapy for OCD
Three key messages:
- OCD is a common disorder - nothing to be ashamed of
- It’s not your fault
- Recovery is possible with a structured, evidence-based CBT plan
Therapy approach:
- Understand intrusive thoughts and compulsions
- Gradually face triggers with Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP)
- Use EMDR to process distressing experiences contributing to OCD
- Build coping skills, confidence, and control
Therapy for Trauma (PTSD)
Three key messages:
- PTSD is a normal response to abnormal experiences - you are not alone.
- Your symptoms are not your fault.
- Recovery is possible with evidence-based therapy, such as EMDR or trauma-focused CBT.
How EMDR helps:
- Reduces flashbacks, nightmares, and distressing memories
- Helps you respond to triggers with calm and control
- Supports reconnection with life without feeling constantly on edge
DBT informed Emotional Regulation & Resilience.
DBT (Dialectical Behaviour Therapy) skills help manage intense emotions, improve relationships, and reduce self-critical or self-sabotaging behaviours. DBT can support you to:
- Regulate intense emotions and reduce impulsive reactions
- Manage distressing situations more effectively
- Develop mindfulness, self-compassion, and acceptance
- Improve relationships through better communication and boundary-setting
- Strengthen resilience and cope with everyday stress
Common Symptoms Therapy Can Support
- Intrusive, unwanted thoughts or images
- Compulsions, rituals, or urges
- Flashbacks, nightmares, or vivid memories
- Anxiety, guilt, shame, or self-criticism
- Concentration or sleep difficulties, feeling “on edge”
- Avoidance of people, places, or situations
- Feeling stuck in patterns affecting confidence, relationships, or daily life
- Overthinking or rumination
These are normal responses to stress, trauma, or OCD. Therapy can help you manage symptoms, understand their origins, and regain control, confidence, and meaning.
