About me

Hello and welcome to my profile.  My name is Helena, I am a Counsellor, supervisor and group facilitator. PG Dip, MBACP.  Certified Online and Telephone Counsellor with over 30 years experience working in a variety of settings across statutory and voluntary sector. At my practice you will find a warm welcome from a friendly and professional therapist. I genuinely care about your wellbeing and progress.  The service offered is inclusive, flexible and designed to accommodate your individual needs and preferences.  You can expect a confidential and non judgemental environment where you will be supported to feel safe through your therapeutic journey.  Each session is tailored to address your specific challenges and goals, utilising proven therapeutic techniques to help you overcome obsticles to improve your overall quality of life. I believe in providing a personalised, client centred approach to counselling. I see each person and their journey as unique and am committed to providing a service that respects your autonomy.

My therapeutic framework includes the person centred approach where I see you as the expert in your own life and experiences. This approach empowers you to  take control of your healing process. I like to work integratively drawing on techniques learnt from additional training in trauma and attachment helping to provide guidance, support and understanding. I blend this with other techniques to help you to identify and change unhelpful patterns in your thoughts, feelings and behaviours that may be contributing to your trauma symptoms.

I am qualified to deliver therapy face to face, by telephone or virtually. Weighing the benefits and drawbacks of each counselling format can help you determine the most suitable option for your needs and preferences. Helena Stephan – Fae Therapy is committed to providing a range of counselling options, ensuring that you can choose the approach that best supports your journey towards emotional well-being and personal growth.

I have experience of working with young people and adults going through issues including trauma, criminal justice, anxiety, depression, eating disorders, child sexual abuse, sexual violence, domestic abuse, addiction, bereavement and suicide, self-harm, family issues, work related stress and change of life events including menopause.  I am also a qualified to offer pre-trial therapy.

I believe that being out in nature and spending time with animals can offer restorative qualities.  That’s why here at Helena Stephan – Fae Therapy I am delighted to offer access to my cat co-therapist, Billi who can attend sessions on request.  You are also welcome to bring your emotional support animal to sessions with you (must be well behaved).

It is a privileged to do the work that I do and I am always striving towards creating a trusting and collaborative therapeutic relationship.  I provide counselling support which can be short term, focused on specific issues that you may be having and also longer-term therapy that can help you to navigate more complex difficulties in your life.

Member organisations

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
