About me

I qualified as a counsellor in 2008. Since then I have supported adults and children with a range of issues including (but not limited to) stress, anxiety, depression, loss, low self belief and low self confidence. Since 2016 the majority of my work has been in supporting adult and child survivors of sexual violence. This has meant me working in a more trauma informed way and supporting people with a wide range of impacts and helping them to understand their own particular responses and impacts to what they have experienced.

I feel that given the right conditions and support we are able to heal ourselves and I am constantly encouraged by the resilience and strength I regularly witness in people who have suffered at the hands of others.

I currently offer online counselling sessions only.

Training, qualifications & experience

Hi, thank you for taking the time to read my profile, I hope the information provided below will help you to decide if I am the right counsellor for you.

I qualified in 2008 in Therapeutic Counselling and since then have added the following qualifications to my skill set: CBT; EMDR; Child and Adolescent EMDR; REWIND and Clinical Hypnotherapy.

I work from a person-centred base which means that sessions are led by you, rather than being directed by me. You are the expert on what you have experienced and how this has impacted on you and how you are feeling. I will be beside you, helping and supporting. As we go along we can consider if/when to work with any of the below:

CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) - this is a solution-focused way of working, aiming to change negative thought processes and behaviours. CBT sessions are more structured and require you to actively practice changes outside sessions.

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) - this works successfully at helping people to process trauma by considering the whole of the impact including all aspects of the traumatic memories. It can help you to reframe any beliefs you have about the trauma and reduce the levels of distress felt when these memories are activated.

REWIND - is another technique successfully used to process trauma in a way that helps you to detach from it and lessen the ongoing impacts such as panic attacks and flashbacks.

Clinical Hypnotherapy uses deep relaxation techniques to enable you to accept positive suggestions rather than continue with negative beliefs and behaviours.

The most important aspect of all the above is the working relationship between you and me. I have been supporting adult and child survivors of sexual violence since 2016 and provide the people I work with a safe and confidential environment that encourages them to explore the impacts of their experiences and move on from them.

I accept clients aged 13 and over and provide online sessions.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
