Hello! My name is Helen Robinson and I am an integrative counsellor with extensive experience of working in mental health and well being. I also work with people who want to work in a place of warmth and honesty over other issues such as confidence, direction in life or just feelings of being a valuable human being. I am aware that some people want to have counselling after finishing at IAPT and I have experience in coaching and moving people on after they have finished with IAPT psychotherapy with warmth and honesty.
People come for counselling for other reasons. I believe that listening in a welcoming and confidential setting is central to the therapeutic relationship - the relationship between client and counsellor. This is where I believe it all happens. I am happy to use creative ideas to help clients express their anger in a safe place where they may have felt blocked in a safe setting. As a Christian myself I am happy to create a safe place for both Christian and non Christian clients.
I work on a short term model which can be extended by mutual agreement. I contract clients to come for 6 sessions initially so they know they have committed time and resources to start with and then it can be extended. Clients have their own regular time slot though again this is flexible. Here the client is held in empathy, honesty, and positive regard where they can grow in self esteem and self awareness. This is really important especially for people who have struggled with a long term illness. As well as being grounded in person centred and creative counselling as an integrative counsellor I also use compassion focused therapy both Christian and Humanistic and I help people find different ways of looking at daily stress.
Training, qualifications & experience
I am an Accredited BACP counsellor with experience working in a mental health setting as well as with a wider client group. I am happy to work with clients on antidepressants and can tailor 6 session of goal based therapy. This can be extended as the client feels they want the therapy to extend. I am aware clients want to be flexible and do not want to commit to long term therapy without having a choice.
I have a diploma in counselling with distinction and post graduate qualifications in health psychology and psychology. I have recently gained a CPCAB certficate in Understanding Substance Misuse. I am an Accredited Member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy.
