About me

I am an integrative counsellor with extensive experience of working in mental health and well being particularly stress, anxiety and depression as well as other mental health diagnoses.  I work with people in a place of warmth and honesty over issues such as confidence, direction in life, career or just feelings of being a valuable human being. I am aware that some people wonder what to do after CBT to understand their thought and feelings and to make positive changes.  I believe people are not just a diagnosis but a human being.

People come for counselling for all sorts of reasons.  I believe that listening in a welcoming and confidential setting is central to the therapeutic relationship - the relationship between client and counsellor.  Here it all happens. I am happy to use creative ideas to help clients express their anger in a safe way where they may have felt blocked.  As a Christian I am happy to create a safe place for both Christian and non Christian clients and offer contemplative listening.

If you have read this far you may be interested in counselling or have some question you would like to talk about.  I start with an assessment which can be followed by short term or longer counselling.  My sessions are usually 50 minutes long for whatever venue or platform is used.

As well as being grounded in person centred and creative counselling I also use compassion focused therapy both Christian and Humanistic to help people find different ways of looking at daily stress.  I believe passionately that clients can grow by being listened to in a warm safe environment getting the support they need when they want to make positive changes in their lives.

I have more than 10 years experience in helping people with stress and anxiety at work and career counselling leading to a real understanding of what affect anxiety and depression has on peoples life and how to manage it.  I have helped people after having their 10 sessions of CBT learn how to structure their live and to live enriched lives again.  I appreciate nature and feel that it can have a place in bringing wholeness and emotional regulation.  I have helped many people with their career aims and work life balance being able to see again that they have talents and gifts to enrich their own lives and those of others once again after their own feelings of lack of self worth at work or at home.

Sometimes life throws at us what we don't expect or want and we suffer from grief and loss.  It is my belief that counselling can help us live both brave and fulfilled lives as well as reaching our full humanity.  I feel it is a privilege travelling along together with all sorts of clients in their self discovery and we may use creative ideas.  In the lighter months I can do this as walk and talk with female clients but am happy to work with both men and women all the year round in person and on line weekly or fortnightly.  Walk and talk starts off with 3 online/in person sessions to set safe boundaries.

I also have experience listening to older people and work at adding life to years.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am an Accredited BACP counsellor with experience working in a mental health setting as well as with a wider client group. I am happy to work with clients on antidepressants and can tailor 6 session of goal based therapy. This can be extended as the client feels they want the therapy to extend. I am aware clients want to be flexible and do not want to commit to long term therapy without having a choice.  However I do work long term as well.

I have a diploma in counselling with distinction and post graduate qualifications in health psychology and psychology. I have gained a CPCAB certficate in Understanding Substance Misuse.  I am an Accredited Member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy.

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
