About me

I am an integrative counsellor with extensive experience of working in mental health and well being.  I work with people in a place of warmth and honesty over issues such as confidence, direction in life, career or just feelings of being a valuable human being. I am aware that some people wonder what to do after CBT to understand their thought and feelings and to make positive changes.

People come for counselling for all sorts of reasons.  I believe that listening in a welcoming and confidential setting is central to the therapeutic relationship - the relationship between client and counsellor.  Here it all happens. I am happy to use creative ideas to help clients express their anger in a safe way where they may have felt blocked.  As a Christian I am happy to create a safe place for both Christian and non Christian clients.

I work on a short term model which can be extended by mutual agreement. I contract clients to come for 6 sessions initially so they know they have committed time and resources to start with and then it can be extended.

As well as being grounded in person centred and creative counselling I also use compassion focused therapy both Christian and Humanistic to help people find different ways of looking at daily stress.  I believe passionately that clients can grow by being listened to in a warm safe environment getting the support they need when they want to make positive changes in their lives.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am an Accredited BACP counsellor with experience working in a mental health setting as well as with a wider client group. I am happy to work with clients on antidepressants and can tailor 6 session of goal based therapy. This can be extended as the client feels they want the therapy to extend. I am aware clients want to be flexible and do not want to commit to long term therapy without having a choice.

I have a diploma in counselling with distinction and post graduate qualifications in health psychology and psychology. I have recently gained a CPCAB certficate in Understanding Substance Misuse.  I am an Accredited Member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
