About me

Thinking about counselling and finding the right therapist can be a daunting task and I understand how difficult this can be.  My name is Helen and I have been a counsellor / psychotherapist for over 15 years working with a diverse range of people with a diverse range of issues and difficulties.

The benefits of counselling

If you are having difficulties with an area of your life or feel overwhelmed and troubled by certain feelings and emotions then talking things through with an experienced therapist can be extremely helpful.  There are many reasons why people seek counselling - you may have recently experienced a relationship breakdown, you may be feeling extremely anxious, depressed, struggling with work stress or feel troubled by something from the past.  Whatever your reason for seeking counselling, know that you are already showing courage and strength and I will work to support you in making positive changes and move forwards. There are many benefits to counselling - this includes regaining emotional balance, identifying more effective ways to cope, better relationships, greater confidence and increased sense of direction/motivation/purpose.

My Approach

Finding the right therapist is important - not just someone qualified and competent, but someone you feel comfortable with and where you feel truly heard and understood as a person.  As a person centred therapist my focus is about you as an individual and the unique feelings and experiences that you bring.  Together we can work to uncover and understand how you have been impacted by those feelings / experiences, how to make changes that are right for you and so begin a journey of personal learning, insight and understanding, and ultimately to improved coping, relating and emotional well-being.  For many this is a powerful and lasting healing experience.

I am a conscientious and mindful practitioner and work to build a therapeutic relationship with all my clients that is based on trust, compassion, respect and honesty and that keeps you and your needs at the centre of our work together.

Taking the next step

It's empowering to have made the decision to seek counselling as this will be the first step towards gaining clarity, fresh perspectives and feeling more able to cope with your everyday life.

Please feel free to go to my website if you would like to find out a bit more about me and my service.  Otherwise please feel free to get in touch. I am happy to arrange a free 15 minute telephone consultation if this would help.  This will enable us to discuss a bit more about the reasons you are seeking support and whether you feel I am the right therapist for you.

Member organisations

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
