About me

Sometimes people come to therapeutic coaching knowing exactly what is wrong.

More often, they just know they do not want to continue as they are.

Something feels off, difficult, exhausting, stuck or disconnected.

Sessions offer a supportive but purposeful space to think clearly, understand yourself more deeply, and make changes that feel real and sustainable - helping you make sense of things and begin to move forward.

I provide one-to-one therapeutic coaching - online via Microsoft Teams and in person in Harrogate, North Yorkshire - for adults and young people who feel ready for change, not just insight.

Therapeutic coaching brings together the depth of counselling and the forward focus of coaching. It is a warm, structured and collaborative way of working that offers space for reflection and self-understanding, whilst also supporting you to take meaningful steps forward in your life.

People often come to me when they are experiencing one or more of the following:

  • Stress, anxiety or overthinking
  • Low confidence or self-doubt
  • Life transitions or uncertainty
  • Unhelpful patterns or habits that keep repeating
  • Feeling stuck or lacking direction
  • Inner criticism or imposter feelings

Taking that first step can feel daunting, which is why I always offer a free initial conversation. It is a relaxed, no-pressure opportunity to ask questions, get a sense of how I work, and decide whether this feels like the right support for you. There is no obligation at all.

If you are enquiring on behalf of a young person, please do get in touch - I am happy to discuss whether this approach may be suitable.

Testimonials

“I was comfortable from the start. Heather suggested a very structured approach which suited me perfectly and helped me see that deep-seated anger was wrapped up in a grief I hadn’t even recognised. I never felt judged at any point - but she did not allow me to sidestep the difficult stuff either. I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending Heather to anybody. She is really very good.”

“I appreciated Heather’s goal-oriented approach and careful documentation of our discussions, which she used to circle back to discuss themes and accountability. She often used my ‘venting’ to key in on real issues - leading to discussions on what steps I could take to resolve them. It’s a pragmatic approach that forced me to think about my triggers. I am still using the solutions we came up with today.”

“From the initial meeting, I knew Heather was the right personality match for me. She is warm, a great listener and really helped me interrogate aspects of myself - helping me see how I can live a more intentional life. I would highly recommend Heather for anyone looking for an extremely down-to-earth, approachable, kind and super-talented therapeutic coach.”

“Heather provided exactly the type of therapeutic coaching I requested and I am delighted with how she handled each session. I found her to be an effective therapeutic coach, who listened and observed with aware presence. Her questions were timely, opening and helpful. She helped me through a challenging period of my life and I am eternally grateful for her careful, caring support.”

“I contacted Heather when I found my path ahead unclear - dissatisfied at work and frustrated at home. She showed sensitivity and thoughtfulness, was responsive to my feedback, and after a few months I found myself in a more positive mindset. The insights and exercises she shared have enabled me to take control and feel more confident about tackling challenges.”

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a qualified counsellor and coach - dual qualified, and therefore able to work with you in a genuinely blended way, drawing on both the insight and depth of counselling and the structure and forward focus of coaching.

I am a Registered Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and an Accredited Transformative Coach with the Animas Centre for Coaching. I work regularly in clinical supervision to ensure my practice remains safe, ethical and of a high standard.

I have many years of experience working with adults and young people, both online and in person. I have supported individuals through a range of organisations including AXA Health, Childline, Relate, JustB, Place2Be, Spectrum Life, The Harlow Therapy & Coaching, Well Connections.

My approach is integrative, which means I do not follow one single model. Instead I draw on a range of evidence-based approaches - including CBT, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), solution-focused therapy, positive psychology and person-centred practice - and adapt how I work depending on what feels most helpful for you at any given point.

I have a particular interest in ACT, which offers a different and often liberating way of working with thoughts and emotions. This can be especially helpful for those who have tried more traditional approaches and found they didn't quite resonate.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Further information

We can read all the books, listen to the podcasts and gain a great deal of awareness and understanding - but unless we start taking action, life doesn't always make the shifts we want. That gap between insight and change is exactly where therapeutic coaching comes in.

Sessions are structured and purposeful, with space for both reflection and movement. A central part of the work is developing greater self-awareness and self-understanding - not just as an end in itself, but as a foundation for real, lasting change. Insights don't just stay theoretical - we work together to ensure they translate into practical, meaningful change in your day to day life.

I work on a session by session basis with no block bookings, so you always have full flexibility. Sessions are typically weekly or fortnightly to begin with, naturally moving to monthly or quarterly as your confidence and momentum grow.

This way of working tends to be most effective when you feel ready - even if uncertain - to take some ownership of your wellbeing and begin taking small steps forward. It may not be the right fit if you are currently experiencing an acute mental health crisis or require clinical or psychiatric support - in which case I am always happy to point you in the right direction.

Clients often describe therapeutic coaching as a grounded, supportive partnership - one that helps them understand themselves more fully and take purposeful, meaningful steps forward in their lives.
