About me
I am a qualified counsellor, psychotherapist and supervisor (see separate profile)
Life has a habit of throwing a spanner in the works when you least need or expect it. From a specific issue or crisis to a general feeling that things could be a little better, counselling allows you to broach these sometimes difficult topics in a safe, supported and confidential environment.
I am a qualified Therapeutic Counsellor and Psychotherapist, working with clients on both a long or short term basis, covering a wide range of emotional issues. I combine ‘client centred’ and psychotherapeutic approaches, meaning that you take the lead during the time we have together - working at your speed, talking about what you want to talk about, whether that be a current problem or something that is bothering you from your past, as well as looking at the more unconscious parts of us - the parts that lead us to behave and feel in ways we don’t always understand and cause us to get stuck in repeating patterns, leaving us unable to move forwards in our lives.
As well as working individually I have an interest in working with couples. Couples Counselling and Relationship Therapy offers a neutral and secure space to address the struggles relationships face, whether this be a particular issue or event, or that things have simply going awry and the partnership is a little at sea. I use an ‘emotionally focused’ approach to relationship therapy which is just that - exploring the emotions that arise when in a relationship and the impact they have in order to understand them and find a forwards.
As well as standard talking therapy, some people like to write, draw, use movement or drama or explore dreams to help them reflect their thoughts or feelings. I have a background in the arts that enhances this. It is my intention to co-create something with you that meets your needs and helps you move forwards from what is troubling you.
I also offer Walk and Talk Therapy, something that is especially effective for those who find the thought of sitting face to face with someone daunting. This incorporates a walk or some gentle exercise into your sessions to help put you at ease - I have qualifications and experience in exercise and fitness to allow us to do this.
Just a few of the things people bring to counselling include:- Depression, Anxiety, Stress, Anger, Bereavement, Abuse, Relationship Issues, Family Problems, Childhood Events, Self Harming, Eating Disorders, Trauma, Work Issues. There are many many more!
I am a member of the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society and am committed to working within it's ethical framework. I also hold all appropriate insurances.
