About me
About Me
Hi, I’m Hanna, an Integrative Counsellor specialising in working with women and women’s issues, including anxiety, trauma, self-esteem, life transitions and ADHD. I have over three years’ experience running my own private practice, supporting women and individuals with a wide range of presenting issues, alongside over two years’ experience working within a women’s charity in Derbyshire.
I understand that taking the first step into counselling can feel daunting. It’s completely normal to feel unsure or overwhelmed when opening up to someone new. My aim is to offer a warm, supportive and non-judgemental space where you can feel at ease, heard and understood. Together, we can explore what has brought you to counselling and work towards the changes you want, at a pace that feels right for you.
How I Work
As an Integrative Counsellor, I work primarily from a person-centred foundation, meaning you are at the heart of every session. I adapt my approach to suit you as an individual, drawing on different therapeutic models to best support your needs. I offer a safe, confidential and empathic environment where we can explore difficult thoughts, emotions and experiences, while supporting growth, understanding and positive change.
ADHD-Informed Support
I offer ADHD-informed counselling, particularly supporting women who may be living with diagnosed or undiagnosed ADHD. Many women I work with describe feeling overwhelmed, burnt out, misunderstood, or struggling with emotional regulation, low self-esteem, people-pleasing, perfectionism or a sense of ‘not quite fitting in’. ADHD can often be missed or diagnosed later in women, especially when symptoms have been masked for many years.
In our work together, I provide a compassionate, structured yet flexible space where we can explore how ADHD impacts your daily life, relationships and sense of self. I work collaboratively to help you develop greater self-understanding, emotional awareness and practical coping strategies, while reducing shame and self-criticism and building self-compassion.
I believe that a strong therapeutic relationship is key. By building trust and working collaboratively, we can make sense of challenges you may be facing and develop healthier ways of coping and relating to yourself and others.
Areas I Support
In my private practice, I support clients with both short-term and long-term issues, including:
- Anxiety and depression
- ADHD (including support with emotional regulation, overwhelm, self-esteem and coping strategies)
- Domestic abuse and trauma
- Stress, burnout and work-related difficulties
- Grief and bereavement
- Relationship difficulties
- Low self-esteem and low confidence
- Self-defeating patterns and behaviours
- Women’s issues, identity and life transitions
I have experience working with clients from a variety of backgrounds and with differing levels of complexity, and I tailor my approach to meet each client’s unique circumstances.
Sessions
Sessions last 50 minutes, and I offer evening appointments. Sessions can be weekly, fortnightly or monthly, depending on your needs and preferences.
I also offer a free 30-minute consultation. This is an informal, no-obligation conversation where we can talk about what brings you to counselling and where you can ask any questions or share any concerns before deciding whether to proceed.
I am based in Ilkeston, Derbyshire.
Training, Qualifications & Experience
- Level 5 Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling (Integrative)
My integrative training allows me to draw on a range of therapeutic approaches, including:
- Psychodynamic therapy – exploring how past experiences may influence present thoughts, feelings and behaviours
- Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) – understanding the links between thoughts, emotions and actions
- Humanistic approaches – focusing on your lived experience and self-perception
- Transactional Analysis (TA) – exploring communication styles, relationships and problem-solving patterns
During my training, I worked within a women’s centre supporting clients with complex and often overlapping issues, including depression, suicidal thoughts, domestic abuse, complex trauma, addiction and relationship difficulties. This experience allowed me to build a strong, adaptable skill base when working with sensitive and challenging material.
Alongside this, I have worked with Treetops Hospice, supporting individuals experiencing grief and bereavement following the death of loved ones from life-limiting illnesses.
Next Steps
If you are considering counselling and would like a space to talk openly and be supported with care and understanding, you are welcome to get in touch to arrange a free consultation. I would be happy to answer any questions and explore whether counselling with me feels right for you.
Training, qualifications & experience
I have a level 5 Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling which is based on an integrative approach, this means I can draw on my knowledge of several counselling theories such as Psychodynamic (exploring how the past can be influencing the present and current behaviours), CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy - understanding the link between, thoughts, emotions and actions), Humanistic (focusing on you and how you perceive yourself), TA (Transactional Analysis - looking at the different ways you communicate and problem solving), allowing me to adapt to work best to your needs.
During my training, I was privileged to work at a Women's centre, where I worked with several clients with a variety of complex issues, from depression, suicide, complex trauma including domestic abuse, addiction and relationship issues with self and others, building my skill base throughout this experience. Alongside this I have worked with the organisation Treetops, focusing on grief and bereavement, supporting individuals with death from life-limiting illnesses.
