About me

Hi, I'm Gerry. I'm an integrative counsellor with training in a broad range of counselling and psychotherapy methods including Emotional Therapeutic Counselling (ETC), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Neuro-linguistic Programming (NLP), Hypnotherapy and Coaching.  I am also BDSM/Kink aware and have experience of working with clients from this community without assuming that their Kink is a pathology.  I believe in matching the therapeutic approach to your needs and that might mean combining different approaches to get the best outcome.

How counselling can help.

You are probably reading this because you have an emotional or behavioural problem that is causing you some distress and want to find a way to feel and act more positively.  You may have a name for your problem and call it anxiety, generalised anxiety disorder (GAD), depression, unresolved grief, low mood, stress, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), attachment disorder or some other term.  Whatever you call it, or even if you don't know how to describe it, in my experience the majority of emotional and behavioural problems are rooted in past events or childhood experiences, which cause us to set up safety-seeking and survival coping mechanisms that can cause us problems in later life. Often, we are not even consciously aware of why we act like we do.

Counselling and psychotherapy can offer a way for us help gain better insight into our coping mechanisms and, so, provide us with more choices about how we move forward and live our lives. It can also help us develop alternative emotional and psychological tools which may be less destructive for us.

My approach is always to let you choose how far and in what direction you want the therapy to go. Control is always with you and my role is to help you decide what you want from therapy and to then help guide you to that goal.

So if you want a confidential discussion, free of charge, about how I can help then please call me or email me.

Further information

I work with clients from the BDSM/Kink community in non-judgemental manner.  I do not assume that your kink is a pathology and if you come to see me about an emotional issue such as anxiety or depression, whilst this may be associated with your kink I do not assume so.  We will work together to find the cause as I would with any client.
