About me

I am a qualified and experienced relationship and trauma therapist.  I am a Certified Sensorimotor Psychotherapist, Certified Emotionally Focused Therapist and Integrative counsellor.  I am an EMDR therapist and trained Internal Family Systems Level 1.
I specialise in relationships, with couples or individuals.  I can help you to identify negative patterns that couples co-create and to repair and enhance relationships with the people closest to you.
Emotional hurts and injuries in early relationships and childhood can cause difficulties in relating to loved ones in adult life, long after the original hurt took place.  We can often have no memory of a hurt but know instinctively that relationships feel difficult or painful.  It can sometimes feel scary to let in the love and support of another.

Sometimes when it feels difficult to reach to loved ones for support, partners can reach for support outside the relationship; a few examples are affairs, work, drink, porn.  These betrayals can be painful to discuss with your partner but it is possible to have healing, restorative conversations with support in therapy.

Emotionally Focused Therapy is a tested intervention to reduce distress in couple and family relationships and create more secure attachment bonds. This is usually a short-term approach for couples depending on the level of distress in the relationship.  It is a useful model for couples, families and individuals.

Sensorimotor Psychotherapy is an impactful model of therapy that supports repair and recovery of developmental wounds.  It is an effective and safe model of therapy for the treatment of trauma which draws on the natural wisdom of the body. This therapeutic model supports working with single -event life threat trauma and emotional and developmental trauma.

I also offer EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) for the treatment of trauma.

I have experience of working with mixed agenda couples where one partner wants to end the relationship and one partner wants the relationship to continue.
Is it too late to repair?

It is never too late to work on your relationship.  However, if you have decided that you want to end your relationship this can be a difficult time, especially if your partner still wants the relationship to continue.

If you want your relationship to continue and your partner has threated to leave, you are probably feeling afraid, hurt and angry at the prospect of losing your partner.
While couple counselling is not appropriate at this stage of the relationship, it is still possible to talk about what has happened to bring you to this point in your relationship.  Working with a therapist can help bring clarity about which direction to take, while supporting both clients’ opposing goals.

I am offering sessions with couples and individuals, as well as supervision for relationship counsellors.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
