About me

If your usual coping strategies aren’t helpful anymore, it’s time to invest in therapy.

I’ll work collaboratively with you, to help you make sense of your current difficulties. My clients have found that this makes emotions more bearable. Not needing to escape your emotions can help you to make healthier choices and regain a sense of control in your life. We’ll also explore your resources and coping strategies.

I’m a relational counselling psychotherapist and I mainly integrate elements of person-centred and psychodynamic theory into my work. I respect that you are the expert of your own experiences. So I don’t provide advice, but a calm, accepting environment, and the added perspective that psychological theory can bring. I work in a trauma-informed way to keep you safe throughout this difficult and rewarding work.

If this sounds good to you, please get in touch to find out more.

Training, qualifications & experience

As of June 2026, I have delivered over 950 client sessions, most of which were with long or medium-term private clients, for substantial psychological change.

I graduated with a distinction in my Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy from Leeds Beckett University. During the course of my studies, I developed my own integrative framework, combining a humanistic, person-centred approach with some of the key theoretical elements from psychodynamic therapy and attachment theory - I'm happy to discuss this with you in more detail.

Trauma and nervous system responses are a key area of focus for my ongoing research and reading. I often provide psychoeducation to my clients to help them understand their physiological symptoms when their autonomic nervous system is triggered. I work in a trauma-informed way, to avoid re-traumatisation and take physical symptoms into account. My latest CPD qualification is 'Trauma and the Body: Dissociation and Somatisation' by Carolyn Spring.

My specialism is in working with recovering addicts to build their emotional resilience and reduce their need for an addictive coping strategy. I have also seen great results using this approach long term to tackle bereavement, depression and social anxiety, among other issues.

Prior to training, I worked as a listening volunteer for the Samaritans, mostly over telephone and email; I am trained to have sensitive but frank conversations about suicidal thoughts, assessing risk appropriately and making crisis plans with clients. I also have my certificate in Mental Health First Aid.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information

I operate within the principles of the Power Threat Meaning Framework. My humanistic philosophy means that I approach our work from the stance that there is nothing "wrong" with you. Instead, we explore together what has happened to you and how you have come to have difficulties, help you make sense of that and finally, help you consider your resources and options for instigating positive change in your life.
