About me
Hi, I'm Gemma. I offer a professional, flexible service, which is driven by evidence based, effective therapies including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and EMDR (eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing), aiming to meet individual needs as much as possible. I aim to not only help you to manage and lessen any distressing symptoms and difficulties but also to help develop insights and skills towards preventing similar difficulties in the future. I have experience of mental health difficulties myself throughout my teenage years, which is what led me to my career in helping others.
I am a CBT therapist fully accredited with the BABCP and trained in EMDR. I have completed training in ACT (acceptance and commitment therapy) and this often is an integral part of the type of therapy approach I apply. I have also completed some training in ISF (internal family systems and 'chair work' to help resolve difficulties that can arise from earlier experiences. I have a particular interest in working with self-worth/acceptance.
I believe that we all have the ability to heal and to become more 'in charge' of our own minds and therefore reduce the unhelpful patterns that our brain can easily lead us into.
Training, qualifications & experience
I worked in the NHS in adult Primary mental health services delivering psychological therapies for over 17 years and have now worked fully in private practice for over 3 years. My main experience is in treating common mental health and psychological difficulties, such as low self-worth, depression, trauma and a range of anxiety disorders.
