About me
I am an accredited, qualified counsellor/ psychotherapist and supervisor in private practice. I am a registered member of the British Association for Counsellors and Psychotherapists. I also have a background in teaching, coaching and unionism. I work integratively with clients. I am an experienced therapist working to help clients navigate trauma, grief, relationship issues, identity issues as well as internal conflicts with self.
My approach is humanistic by that I mean I am aware that the client knows where it hurts the most. My work is both directive and at times non directive. Steering the client towards a better understanding of self and helping the client to manage their struggles better, through providing more awareness about how they have gotten to where they are in the first place. This includes recognising their successes too. I adopt the core-conditions in my practice, kindness, unconditional positive regard and most importantly empathy. I am committed and dedicated to the work. Understanding that therapy can be a messy process and that we often get stuck but through the stuckness we can slowly find a way out.
Training, qualifications & experience
I am both an Accredited (BACP) Counsellor/ Psychotherapist and a qualified supervisor. I am able to work with clients on both a short-term and long-term basis.
I hold a Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling. I would describe myself as being an integrative counsellor. However, my focus is Person Centered, this means that the client knows where it hurts the most. Therefore, my work is centered on the needs of the client. I believe that clients have autonomy. I believe that therapy is about enabling a client to explore change and growth. The outcome I seek in my work with clients is to explore the issues deeply that they have brought to therapy. While doing this we build a relationship. A strong therapeutic relationship built on trust. It isn't easy to build trust but this is an essential part of the work. The focus of the work is to establish a strong therapeutic alliance with clients so that clients can experience growth, change and work towards achieving their full potential.
I work with many presenting issues, such as anxiety, divorce, relationship issues, sexual abuse, abandonment, social anxiety, stress, cultural issues, identity, racial trauma and trauma in general.
I have a background in teaching and as a result I hold an Msc in Education Management. I am also a Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development. I have worked with MIND the registered national charity and Beyond The Streets. (A charity working with vulnerable women). In addition to this I am currently teaching on the level 5 Diploma in Counselling at Inter-Psyche.
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
