About me
Welcome. I am an experienced psychotherapist and counsellor practicing in Horley, Surrey. If you are struggling with low self-confidence, bereavement, divorce or breakup, self-harm, anxiety, depression, suicidal thoughts, relationship problems or eating and body issues, and looking for an approachable, skilled therapist, I can help. I also work with people who have received an autism or ADHD diagnosis and are processing what this means for them.
Perhaps you are feeling powerless, trapped, depressed or hopeless - or questioning why your life, work or relationships are not going the way you want. You may be seeking therapy because you would like emotional support and an empathic, caring listener, or to develop skills and strategies to help navigate a particularly tough situation and difficult feelings. Having worked with a wide variety of issues, I can help you work through such challenges in a supportive environment.
Described as warm and compassionate, yet also analytical and perceptive, I offer a safe, trauma-informed space where together, we can explore issues that may be causing you pain, sadness or despair, and work towards positive change in your life.
I am a registered member of BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy).
I offer both face to face and online sessions for individual adults 18+.
Sessions with me last a full hour (60 mins) instead of the more typical 50 mins because I feel this facilitates a richer, more productive session.
Psychodynamic Therapy
What do you really believe about yourself? What do you really want?
Psychodynamic therapy works by deepening insight into unhelpful, often distorted unconscious beliefs and patterns that can, unknowingly, hold us back. By exploring the impact earlier experiences and trauma can have upon our personality and behaviour, we build both self-compassion and self-awareness: the necessary groundwork for deep and lasting change.
Trauma can be both overt, such as sexual and physical trauma, or less obvious, such as emotional neglect and emotional abuse. All types can deeply affect our self-confidence, relationships, and choices in life. I have helped many people work through difficult life experiences and reach a place where this no longer feels so heavy or holds them back. Many studies show that people who have undertaken psychodynamic therapy continue to improve long after ending.
Alongside the psychodynamic model, I sometimes utilise ideas and tools from CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) and other modalities to help clients take proactive steps towards specific goals. The combination of learning more about ourselves whilst taking action, even small steps, can be challenging yet empowering.

Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Where?
Face to face sessions are held at comfortable private premises on Station Approach, Horley. A parking space is available for clients directly in front of the practice entrance. The practice is on the ground floor.
I also offer online and phone sessions when preferred, or a mixture.
The first session:
This is a chance to discuss the main issues on your mind, clarify what you're hoping to gain from therapy, and for you to ask me any questions. It is both an "assessment" and a taster of regular therapy, as well as an opportunity for us to see if we might be a good "fit." Please contact me to arrange.
If you decide to proceed with therapy, we will clarify the goals and length of treatment and begin working on your concerns in more depth. I usually work open-ended; however, I can also offer a fixed number of sessions. The advantage of open-ended therapy is that a deeper relationship develops and more complex issues can be explored.
How often?
Sessions are typically held weekly. Some clients, for different reasons, prefer fortnightly sessions and I may offer this option if suitable, usually after a minimum of six weeks. Sessions can be held in person or online, or a combination of both.
Beginning therapy can feel like a big step, and I will do everything I can to help you feel at ease.
