About me
Are you struggling with anxiety, depression, stress, loneliness or feeling misunderstood by others? As a qualified and experienced Counsellor & Psychotherapist, my main aim is to work with you on your journey to replace struggle with peace and calm within. I know that it is not easy to share your deepest struggles with someone you are meeting for the first time, but I can assure you that you are not alone in this.
Sometimes in life, we go through difficult situations that come upon us unexpectedly, which we struggle to deal with. During these times of crisis, what we need is a safe and confidential support where we can be listened to without judgement. The way that I work is to give you the space to begin the process of resolving any underlying conflicts and hurts that may be holding you back from reaching your full potential in life, while helping you to understand how your thought patterns may be affecting your moods and actions. We will also explore how past events could be holding you back from moving forward in your current situation.
I practice integrative counselling and psychotherapy, which is a model that uses techniques from different approaches to therapy, based mainly on what you want to deal with (person-centred), and how your thoughts and feelings are affecting your daily life (CBT). Therefore, the service provided is tailored to suit your specific needs and particular circumstance. This means that I will work alongside you to clarify the issues you may be presenting and to identify what you would like to get out of the therapy sessions, so that you feel fully involved in the process and can take pride in your achievements at the end of our work together.
Training, qualifications & experience
I hold a Post Graduate Diploma as well as an MA in Counselling and Psychotherapy. I have worked on a voluntary basis with MIND in Tower Hamlets and Newham and with the Centre for Better Health in Hackney.
In addition to the above, I hold an Advanced Certificate in Christian Pastoral Care and Counselling and also a Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). Originally, I trained and worked as a secondary school teacher which was when my interest in Counselling and Psychotherapy began.
I regularly undertake continuing professional development courses and workshops, including a recent one on Autism Awareness and Neurodivergence-informed therapy.
I will work collaboratively with you and have experience of providing short-term sessions where the focus will be on achieving a specific goal, as well as working on a long-term basis with open-ended sessions which would allow us to work on more deep-rooted issues that require adequate time for a change of perspective to be achieved.
As a member of the BACP, I abide by their ethical framework for good practice which includes maintaining confidentiality and receiving regular supervision to ensure that the service I provide is of the highest standard.
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
