About me
I have been a BACP accredited Counsellor since 2004. Working face to face in my offices which are private, warm and a safe place. I offer mindfulness and breathwork techniques as well as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy following completion of my CBT Postgrad Diploma 2002-2004. I have also qualified as a Master Practitioner Eating Disorders and Obesity following training at the National Centre for Eating Disorders 2006-2008. My focus as a counsellor is on the holistic well-being of everyone who comes to me for help, connecting patterns and facilitating changes and improving quality of life, emotionally, physically and spiritually. The key is that you feel like the one behind the steering wheel and in control as we navigate through your every need ensuring that you feel more self-aware and empowered. I work with issues such as Depression, Anxiety, childhood trauma, PTSD, Bereavement, Panic attacks, Stress, Anorexia, Bulimia and Binge Eating Disorder.
Training, qualifications & experience
As a volunteer at the Samaritans 30 years ago and graduating from Coventry University 1996, I've always had an interest in the human condition and in helping others along in their individual journeys. Once I became accredited with BACP, I set up my own Private Practice and trained specifically in Eating Disorders. Over time it was realised the need for help, guidance and support for the local community and their mental health and working alongside GP surgeries in the area, I was able to provide CBT and counselling through funded bodies as well as work on a private basis. Since 2021, I have re-branded and am now called Empower Counselling. I chose this name as all along in my work, I focused on creating a safe and professional space where anyone could come and feel empowered in their own lives and thrive to be happier and more content in their lives.
Member organisations
school Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
