About me
I have over 10 years' experience working as a therapeutic counsellor, educator and coordinator, primarily in the charitable sector. I specialise in working with those impacted by abuse, either in childhood or in intimate relationships.
How I work:
If you haven't had therapy before, I imagine you may have lots of questions about how it will feel or what it will look like. Often, clients first arrive wanting to speak to me about difficulties in their life right now, and how they may be feeling stuck in them, maybe even controlled by them. I have witnessed people experience relief by just ‘speaking it out’, as often life means we are too limited, too responsible, or too busy to do this.
In my work, the starting point is often making sense of what is happening now, and how it relates to what has happened before – sometimes years ago. I gently couple this with listening to the more subtle, unnoticed signs of struggle. Fatigue, ‘heaviness’ and anxiety, or fleeting or persistent bodily sensations, like breathlessness or nausea, can all be connected to our emotions. The repetitive, critical, and untrue stories of the mind may also be fuelling this. Sometimes, I may slow everything down to be able to explore what is really going on. Through this, I have witnessed people beginning to feel unstuck, more understood, freer in their expression, and more present in their bodies.
- Persistent feelings of anxiety or panic
- Intrusive thoughts that may cause discomfort, fear or overwhelm
- Feelings of numbness or being stuck
- Postnatal depression and/or anxiety
- Persistent feelings of anger or rage
- Difficulty in recognising and communicating emotions
- Exploring gender identity and gender expression
- Relationships – for example, how trauma can cause difficulty in attaching to others
- Sexuality and Intimacy – for example, any blocks to feeling desire, safety, confidence
- Religious Trauma, for example, exploring any harmful impact of control, high expectations, shame, doubt
Where to begin?
I warmly welcome you to contact me to book an initial session – this will be for 30 minutes. I tend to offer this online, but I can meet in person. During this, we will explore your needs for therapy and any fears, questions or hopes you may have. It’s usually an opportunity to see if I'm the right therapist – it's very important you feel my approach is suited to you. You can take time after the initial session to think about this.

Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
