About me
I discovered counselling not just through studying and training, but through personal necessity, a need to understand how we cope, adapt, and continue when life becomes physically and emotionally overwhelming. For me, that turning point came with when I was diagnosed with a mixed connective tissue disorder, a complex, often invisible condition that impacted nearly every aspect of my life. The experience gave me a deep understanding around loss of identity, and gave me strong empathy for those who deeply suffer. The experience prompted me to turn my lived experience into something meaningful, the opportunity to be of help to others based off my own experience. This took me on a different path to retrain in counselling and psychotherapy to support others who might be struggling to cope mentally.
In my private practice in Cumbria I support individuals living with a range of different psychological issues, such as depression and anxiety, sexual abuse/ trauma, PTSD, chronic illness, and bereavement, suicidal ideation, low mood, drug misuse, identity struggles, or burnout to name a few. I offer a warm peaceful space for individuals to work through their challenges in a way which feels safe and at their own pace. I also offer online sessions to individuals who feel more comfortable discussing from home. Whichever way suits them best.
The approach I use is person-centred, with the understanding that no one knows their own experiences better than themselves. I offer a relational, compassionate understanding, grounded in the belief that healing doesn’t come from quick fixes, but from connection and the right conditions. It is not my role to diagnose or judge, but to help support you in a way that can help you begin to move forward feeling more confident from your own experiences and to take back your power.
Training, qualifications & experience
I hold a masters level PgD in counselling and psychotherapy from the University of Cumbria. I have extensive experience of working with individuals of different ages and diverse ethnic backgrounds.
Prior to this I undertook a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminology. This gave me transferable skills into counselling such as a broad understanding on human behaviour, helping me gain greater understanding of trauma, adversity and working with vulnerable and marginalised groups.
Alongside studying I gained years of experience as a Teaching Assistant across both mainstream, SEN settings and trauma-informed schools. I have supported children who have been impacted by complex trauma, including those with histories of abuse, neglect, attachment disorders, and other adverse childhood experiences (ACEs).
I have employed trauma-informed strategies to create a safe, predictable, and nurturing environment individuals feel respected and supported.
