About me

I have been a Person Centred Counsellor for over 10 years.  I have worked for over 5 years in a Student Counselling Service.  I've been working in emotionally intensive environments, since 2014. Alongside counselling, I have worked in charities in the social care sector for more than ten years. I have a  range of experience but have an interest in working with anxiety, depression and OCD. I also have a lot of experience working with people who live with Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASC).

I’m able to work on both a short- and long-term basis and I am willing to negotiate what you need from me and work together to find a number of sessions or therapy journey that’s right for you.

About me:

I became a Counsellor because therapy has helped me a lot in my life by enabling me to anchor my emotions, take control of my anxiety and giving me the space to rummage through my thoughts.

I’m from Edinburgh and I’m a warm, passionate and friendly person I am used to working with lots of different people and I tend to make connections quickly.

I lead a holistic life, because maintaining both body and mind keeps me centred, I practice yoga, I enjoy meditation, and I think this influences all areas of my life.

My approach:

I aim to provide a safe space where you can bring any issue in your life. I’m a visual person so I use visualisation, metaphor to enable me to communicate my understanding of your world/feelings/thoughts during sessions.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have worked in a University Student Counselling service for over five years.

Throughout my mental health career, I have chosen to work in either Person Centred and/or Holistic environments. This has given me a strong understanding of a Person-Centred approach and an appreciation for individuality as I have worked with many different people who needed different approaches.

Qualifications:

Strathclyde University, Postgraduate Diploma in Person Centred Counselling.

West Lothian College, SVQ level 4 -Social Care and Management.

Edinburgh’s Telford College, HNC Counselling.

University of Stirling, BA (Hons) Film and Media Studies.

Counselling experience:

I have worked in PF Counselling Service, The Health Agency at Wester Hailes Healthy Living Centre and Simpson House Substance Misuse Project.

Work experience:

I have worked in many roles as a Team Leader, Senior Support Worker, Support Worker and a Volunteer Group Facilitator in supported living and community outreach projects.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
