About me
For most of us, relationships hold a very special place in our lives, be they relationships with our family, friends or work colleagues. Sometimes these relationships can go through difficult times which can feel quite upsetting and traumatic. My specialism, as a counsellor/psychotherapist, is to try and help those struggling with a relationship reach some sort of resolution.
After completing a diploma in person-centred counselling I went on to join Relate Warwickshire as a trainee counsellor in 2000. In the thirteen years I spent with Rugby Relate, until they went into liquidation in 2013, I completed all areas of their training. This training enabled me to work with any age from 5 years upwards. I can work with individuals, couples and families and I became the Leading Therapist for Warwickshire Relate and led on a number of their joint projects with other agencies including Warwickshire County Council and Adoption Central England. I helped to develop projects helping families to navigate their way through relationship and family breakdown and also have worked with families where children have been taken into care.
I now like to focus my practice on couple and family work endeavouring to assist those struggling with the complexities of relationships and how the demands of everyday life can take its toll on even the most robust of connections with others. In couple relationships both parties not only bring their present self, but also all that they have learned since birth from all of their role models within the family. It is fascinating to help couples discover unconscious family scripts regarding how to behave and respond within a relationship and to see how those scripts impact on their couple connection.
Nothing changes, if nothing changes and sometimes recognising an unhelpful pattern of communication or behaviour within a relationship and tweaking it a little can create opportunity for a healthier connection to emerge.
Sadly, sometimes difficulties can be insurmountable and I would hope that I can help those involved to either separate as a couple with as little pain as possible or in the case of family members, reach a satisfactory conclusion where at least some of their needs are met so they can move forward.

Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
Areas of counselling I deal with
Other areas of counselling I deal with
I offer help and support to those couples whose relationship has ended and who are trying to manage their new relationship as separated parents. We can look at co-parenting, children managing two homes and the adult communication between separated parents.
We can also discuss how to tell the children about parental separation and how to manage questions and any issues that arise post break up.

Further information
After receiving an enquiry I offer a free 20 minute telephone conversation, so both myself and the person or persons I am speaking with can gain a little more insight regarding the problem and whether I might be the best person to offer support.
I try to be as flexible as possible regarding times and regularity of appointments and use a room in Rugby town centre for face to face appointments where there is free car parking. I also offer online sessions and telephone work.
