About me

Thank you for considering me to help you.

My name is Edward Rowan and I am a mature, highly experienced Counsellor and Psychotherapist who has helped hundreds of clients (aged 8 to 80) to resolve the emotional problems that life has presented to them.

Considering counselling for the first time is always a challenging step, because it is an acknowledgement that there is a problem, that we want to solve it – and that we need some caring, expert help to sort it out.

But the immediate dilemma is - which Counsellor/Therapist should I choose to help me with my unique, personal journey into emotional wellness.  It has to be someone I can trust completely, who is non-judgmental, down-to-earth, accepting of my shortcomings and who offers wisdom, calmness and belief in the fundamental good nature of most people.

I’ve been fortunate enough during the past 30 years to experience for myself, a lot of life-changing personal therapy from several excellent therapists – so I really do understand how important your choice of Counsellor can be.

My website will give you some insight into me, my work and my ethos. But there is no substitute for meeting face-to-face and so I offer you a complimentary 30 minute assessment session to see how we get on together.

There is no cost to you, no commitment and therefore nothing to lose – except your problems.

I work one-to-one with individual clients or jointly with couples and family groups - dealing with individual personal problems or relationship issues. I have clients from many parts of the UK and especially from North Midlands, Staffordshire, South Cheshire, Stoke on Trent, Newcastle under Lyme and Shropshire.

My extensive experience and specialist professional training includes resolving

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Further information

Troubled by alcohol? If alcohol is causing problems in your life or the life of a loved one, a bespoke/exclusive Personal Intervention by Edward Rowan in the privacy of your own home can give you hope and provide a lasting solution.

No one understands the loneliness and misery of the problem drinker – other than someone who has been there, experienced the isolation and suffering, tackled the problem and found a lasting, comfortable solution.

I understand and I can help!

An ex-problem drinker, I have been sober for more than 33 years and have assisted a large number of fellow sufferers to overcome their alcohol problems and rebuild their lives.

From my own recovery experiences and those of hundreds of other ex-problem drinkers, I have developed Personal Interventions – a unique service for those who want to be free from the ravages of alcohol but who don’t want to be committed to the stigma and considerable expense of a long period in a clinic.

Personal Interventions are for men and women who want to get well as quickly as possible - while carrying-on as normal a life as possible.

And I know from my own, past battle with alcohol that it’s not just the drinker who suffers – family, friends, colleagues and employers can all pay the dreadful price of problem drinking.

There is a way out – and I can help you achieve it.
