About me
Hello, I'm Dymphna.
I'm a Counsellor offering one to one sessions, in St Leonards on Sea East Sussex. I offer a safe, confidential space where we can explore what is troubling you and work towards change if that is what you want. I also offer online counselling. I can work with you for just a few sessions or, if needed, for months or years.
I have experience of working with adults with a wide variety of problems including trauma, loss, depression, anxiety, sadness, anger and relationship issues. I have also volunteered for the local branch of a carers charity; so I am experienced in understanding issues associated with caring roles.
I have a special interest in the impact of trauma on people's lives and I offer trauma informed therapy. This means that I have an awareness of triggers, physiological symptoms, and how a history of trauma continues to have ramifications into adulthood.
Away from my counselling practice I am a qualified Occupational Therapist (OT), working in the NHS. Which means that I am used to working with people whose ability to function has been impacted by physical illness. I support them to maintain their independence and reach their goals.
My two professions compliment each other: I understand that daily routines can feel effortful. Sometimes we do not want, or we feel unable, to fulfil our roles and responsibilities; and all this can have a real impact on how we cope with our lives.
I have also learnt that whether I am an Occupational Therapist or a Counsellor, humour can have a healing effect. My therapy room is certainly not a humour free zone.
If you are struggling to find balance and joy in your life I may be able to help you help yourself.
