About me

At times in our lives being able to share our thoughts and feelings with another human being can be so useful that we wonder why we waited to make the decision to move towards change. I believe each of us has a basic human need to be understood and loved and respected for who we are and when this doesn’t occur, as so often is the case, we lose our own ability to show any kindness to ourselves and have the potential for self destruction which can play out in many forms of human behaviour.

I practice in a way which respects the individual person for who they are and offer a safe, confidential and non-judgemental space for us to explore what is causing you concern. The relationship between us is always at the heart of the work and through trust and understanding it becomes a key component to making sense of where the difficulties lie. As an integrative counsellor I am able to adapt my therapeutic approach to each clients individual needs.

In our therapeutic relationship we work together and try to understand what has brought you to this point in your life which is causing you concern, and to help you make sense of what may have happened in the past or is happening right now and preventing you from living and growing towards your ever present potential. There are many reasons why people seek counselling; grief, isolation, fear, anxiety, relationship issues, work problems and depression to name but a few and there are many ways to approach these human concerns.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
