Donna Karpel MBACP AD(Dip)
Hello, my name is Donna Karpel, I really do know how difficult it can be to take that first step to start counselling but I am warm and approachable, and I am able to offer you a safe, non-judgmental space to help you unburden yourself, to talk freely and express difficult and painful emotions.
How I can help you:
* I can listen to you without being judgmental.
* I can help you find a new perspective to look at the issues that affect you.
* I can help you find a voice and be heard.
* I can offer you empathy
* I can help you find strength in challenging situations and help you to deal with difficult people.
* I can help you to learn to say 'No'
*I can build a strong, safe and trusting relationship with you.
* I will be there when you need me.
What I specialise in:
Low self-esteem and confidence issues
What will the first session look like?
The first session will give you the opportunity to see whether you feel at ease with me and if you want to start to explore some of the issues that have brought you to counselling. Following this initial meeting, we will work out the best counselling approach for helping you move forward.
What length of counselling I offer:
Short term (usually up to 6 sessions) and longer term counselling- you decide how long you want to be in therapy for, there is no long-term commitment.
I can offer daytime, evening and some weekend appointments.
I run a private practice from Bushey and Borehamwood. There are no parking restrictions for either practice.
Please feel free to contact me on my mobile number, 07956401489 to discuss any aspects of counselling, particularly if you are anxious or struggling with the concept of entering into the counselling process for the first time. Alternatively you can email me at email@example.com Please be assured that everything is dealt with in the strictest of confidence.
Training, qualifications & experience
I am a fully qualified counsellor and am trained as an Integrative Humanistic Counsellor, which means I bring together a rang of different theories and techniques, in order to better understand and respond to each client and their individual needs.
I hold a Certificate, a Diploma, and an Advanced Diploma in Integrative Counselling. I have also received additional training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Time-Limited Counselling, Psychiatry, Psychopathology, and Psychodynamics.
I am also a fully trained Samaritan and have lots of experience offering emotional support to people who are experiencing feelings of distress, despair, and suicidal thoughts.
I also currently work with adolescents (16-19 year olds) as a school counsellor and work as a bereavement counsellor within two different organisations, at the North London Hospice and at Grief Encounter. I also provided counselling for the charity EACH, specifically helping those with mental health issues.
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.
Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.
All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
Accredited register membership
Accredited Register Scheme
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
