Dirk Hansen MS, MBACP (Accred) Counsellor
Are you having an emotional or psychological reaction to a difficult experience? Reactions like this can be complex, hard to understand, and even confusing at times. Seeking professional help can make a difference. Hello, I am Dirk Hansen and I am a Counsellor and Psychotherapist serving Leamington Spa. I am accredited with the BACP as a Counsellor/Psychotherapist, and qualified in the USA as a Licensed Mental Health Counsellor. I use a professional and thoughtful approach to guide you through difficult experiences - providing Counselling and Psychotherapy to help you understand your reactions to unexpected events or life changes, and to find ways to cope with your current circumstances.
With more than twenty 25 years' experience in the field of Counselling and Mental Health, ranging from private practice to managing national and international clinical services, I am well-versed in most psychological and emotional problems facing people today. I am also skilled in finding the focus of your problem, and tailoring the right type of assistance to support you in your growth and personal development. This can include short, medium, or long-term intervention.
I offer Counselling and Psychotherapy in Leamington Spa for a variety of problems including anxiety, panic, sleep problems, stress, depression, relationship issues, bereavement, adjustment, obsessive-compulsive disorder, paranoia, childhood trauma, post-traumatic stress disorder, and anger management. I hope to share with you simple yet effective ways to gain relief from distress and return to greater stability - by attaining better understanding and learning new ways of approaching the issues you face. I use a unique combination of Cognitive Behavioural therapy (CBT), Psychodynamic, Solution-Focused, and Systemic therapies; all shown to help individuals move forward in times of difficulty.
I am a BACP Accredited Counsellor in the UK (MBACP) and a Licensed Mental Health Counsellor in the USA (LMHC). I received my academic training in the USA and hold qualifications in both the US and the UK. I also hold certifications in Anger Management and Multi-cultural counselling.

Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.
Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.
All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

Accredited Register Scheme
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
