About me

Hello, I am Dirk Hansen and I am Accredited/Registered with the BACP as a Counsellor/Psychotherapist (MBACP), and qualified in the USA as a Licensed Mental Health Counsellor (LMHC).  I offer a professional and thoughtful approach to guide you through difficult experiences - providing Counselling and Psychotherapy to help you understand your reactions to unexpected events or life changes, and to find ways to cope with your current circumstances.

With over 25 years' experience in the field of Counselling and Mental Health (ranging from private practice to managing national and international clinical services) I am well-versed in the psychological and emotional problems facing people today.  I am also skilled in finding the focus of your problem, and tailoring the right type of assistance to support you in your growth and personal development.  This can include short, medium, or long-term intervention.

My Approach

I offer Counselling and Psychotherapy in Leamington Spa for a variety of problems including anxiety, panic, sleep problems, stress, depression, relationship issues, bereavement, adjustment problems, obsessive-compulsive disorder, paranoia, post-traumatic stress disorder, and anger management.  I hope to share with you simple yet effective ways to gain relief from distress and return to greater stability - by attaining more self-understanding and by learning new ways of approaching the issues you face.  I use a unique combination of Cognitive Behavioural therapy (CBT), Psychodynamic, Solution-Focused, and Systemic therapies; all shown to help individuals move forward in times of difficulty.

Getting Started

Feel free to visit my website: www.dirkhansencounselling.co.uk to learn more about my approach and see a description of my services.  You are also very welcome to message me with any questions you may have, or arrange a free telephone discussion.

I offer a free telephone consultation to help you understand how therapy can be helpful and for us to briefly meet, as I believe that it is very important that you feel comfortable with your choice of Counsellor/Psychotherapist.  If you decide you would like to book an appointment, we can discuss at that time.

If you prefer to book a first appointment without the telephone consultation, you are welcome to email me and I will respond promptly.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.

Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.

All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
