(MBACP) Adults, Children & Young People

About me

Hi, I’m Dempsey!

I work with adults, children and young people offering face to face or online sessions.

My clients would describe me as a friendly, down to earth and relatable therapist. I specialise in working with Neurodivergent clients supporting them through understanding and accepting themselves as they are and exploring ways to support and manage their own needs.  Additionally, I have experience supporting clients with anxiety, stress & burnout, low self esteem, depression and more. I’m invested in helping my clients to explore how they’re feeling, and offering techniques to support them to overcome the challenges they’re facing and work towards feeling better able to cope with life’s struggles.

I work with a variety of clients with a wider range of reasons including Depression, Grief, Bereavement & Loss, Bullying, Relationships and Trauma.

I like to offer a creative and relaxed space where you can make yourself at home, especially for younger clients who might want to play with toys, games or do some colouring while we talk to help build a comfortable environment for my clients to share what they are feeling and work together to overcome the struggles they are facing.

If you are seeking support for yourself, I will listen to you without judgement so you feel heard and help you to make sense of your thoughts and validate your own feelings. I will empower you to make realistic changes in your life that are guided by you, focussing on what’s important to you.

I understand that sometimes there are things that you can’t say to friends or family, and you just need a space to share what is going on for you.

Counselling can feel challenging at times, looking at ourselves with honesty, thinking and talking about our past and some of the parts of it that we may feel we want to lock away and “forget” – but in order to move past the difficult things we have experienced, we must first do the important work which is different for everyone who seeks therapy.

Starting therapy is often quite a daunting prospect. Maybe you already feel overwhelmed by the amount of different therapies and therapists so, Working with me would be right for you if;

  • You are struggling with feelings of anxiety, low self esteem & confidence, stress, burnout, depression or trauma which is having an impact on your day to day life.
  • You feel anxious and it’s stopping you from doing things that you want to do, stopping you from being yourself or forming/ maintaining relationships or friendships.
  • You feel like you’re at a crossroads, trying your best but still feel stuck and you don’t know how to move forward, or even where forward is.
  • You’re struggling with low self esteem and confidence which is impacting all areas of your life and feel like you have lost a sense of who you are.
  • You know the problems that you have been facing, very well, but can’t seem to resolve them and as a result you’re finding it difficult to imagine your future.
  • You get easily overwhelmed and can’t seem to control your feelings, often reacting to things and feeling embarrassment, shame or guilt afterwards.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Further information

After receiving Therapy myself, I gained insight into the true value of being supported by a Counsellor through difficult times, and actually feeling heard while I explored things that I felt incapable of saying out loud, and the best part, in a confidential, judgement free zone! I felt able to open up and gain confidence in being my authentic self, and that's exactly what therapy is for!

As a fellow ADHD'er I can relate to and recognise the struggles that Adults, children and young people may face throughout their lives and the impact that this can have on them in all aspects of their lives.
