About me

Hi, I’m Dempsey!

I am a registered member of the BACP, I have an enhanced DBS to work with adults and children. I offer face to face or zoom appointments. I work with young people and Teenagers 12+  and adults.

I understand that sometimes there are things that you cannot say to friends or family and you just need a safe space to share what is troubling you.

Counselling can feel challenging at times, looking at ourselves with honesty, thinking and talking about our past and some of the parts of it that we may feel we want to lock away and “forget” – but in order to move past the difficult things we have experienced, we must first do the important work which is different for everyone who seeks therapy.

Starting therapy (also referred to as counselling or psychotherapy) is often quite a scary or daunting prospect. Maybe you already feel overwhelmed by the amount of different therapies and therapists available – what do the different qualifications and approaches mean? Who is the most experienced therapist? Who will be the best person to help me?

Working with me would be right for you if;

  • You are struggling with feelings of anxiety, stress, workplace stress, depression or trauma which is having an impact on your day to day life.
  • Your relationship isn’t going well and you don’t know how to repair things, so by having a safe and confidential space to talk without judgement, you can explore and reflect on what’s going on for you.
  •  You feel that your needs are never met, and you feel uncomfortable asserting your boundaries because you feel that people won’t like you, or might think your aggressive or a bad person.
  • You feel like your trying your best but its just not going anywhere, you feel stuck and don’t know how to move forward, or even where forward is.
  • You know the problems that you have been facing, very well, but can’t seem to resolve them and as a result your finding it difficult to imagine your future.
  • You get easily overwhelmed and can’t seem to control your feelings, often reacting to things and feeling embarrassment, shame or guilt afterwards.

I am a friendly, down to earth but professional therapist, I am experienced and I want to help people to feel that their voice is heard, and their feelings are validated. I will help you to feel empowered to make the changes in your life that are important to you, by being authentic to who you are and putting your needs first, I will support you.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I have an enhanced DBS for working with Children and Adults.

My expertise lies with working with anxiety, Self Esteem & confidence, Stress & burnout, all of which can feel debilitating and I know how each of these can affect your daily life. Through counselling I will help you to gain clarity, find new perspectives to make positive changes and achieve personal growth. Whatever the issue, you would discover a new way so they don't impact your daily life anymore.

I have extensive experience supporting young people and adults with issues including anxiety, abuse, grief and intrusive thoughts. I believe you have the answers and will work collaboratively to help you unlock these, gain clarity as well as give you the tools to enable you to get you where you would like to be. I will help you to find a new sense of confidence and autonomy to change negative behaviours.

Through my work in the charity sector at Trafford Domestic Abuse Services and Talk Listen Change I gained experience working with clients experiencing trauma, grief, stress, family dynamics, autism, suicidal thoughts, low self esteem and low confidence.

My professional qualifications include:

  • Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling
  • Level 3 Certificate in Counselling
  • Level 2 Certificate in Counselling
  • Level 3 Management and Team leading
  • Safeguarding Adults and Children
  • Equality and Diversity
  • Domestic Abuse Training
  • Bereavement and Loss Training
  • Suicide Awareness and Prevention

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Further information

After receiving Therapy myself, I gained insight into the true value of being supported by a Counsellor through difficult times, and actually feeling heard while I explored things that I felt incapable of saying out loud, and the best part, in a confidential, judgement free zone! I felt able to open up and gain confidence in being my authentic self, and that's exactly what therapy is for!
