About me

Are you feeling anxious, low in mood or stressed and wished you could find more pleasure in life?

Are you struggling to come to terms with a loss in your life?

This may be loss of health, job, status, relationship, children leaving home or loss of your future dreams and plans?

Maybe you have suffered a bereavement and are finding it hard to cope?

I help people like yourself to explore how you are feeling, so that you can have a greater understanding of the issues you are facing and find ways to manage them.

How I deliver therapy

I am a Relational Therapist but I also use elements of other counselling theories if I feel it would be helpful to you. I believe that healing takes place within a positive and supportive working relationship, formed between therapist and client. We will work together to explore your thoughts and feelings, looking at different perspectives and finding strategies for coping with the aim of being able to lead a more fulfilling life. We may also look at the possible origins of some of  your difficulties by exploring early relationships and experiences. Every 6 weeks we will review how counselling is going to see if it’s working for you.

Sessions are fifty minutes long.

I offer just face to face appointments at the moment.

Long and short term therapy is available.

I work in Shipley. There is free on-street parking. It is 5 mins. walk to the nearest bus stop. The  buses you can catch are number 662 which travels between Keighley, Shipley and Bradford and bus number 60, which travels between Keighley, Shipley and Leeds. It is 20 mins. walk to Saltaire train station.

Initial contact

After contacting me, I will offer you a free 20 min. phone call so we can talk and you can see if working  with me is the right thing for you.

Our first session

I will do my best to put you at your ease when we meet for our first session.

We will talk about what you want to get out of therapy and what previous experience of therapy you may have.

There will be some paper work to go through.  I will need to take your personal details and details of your GP. I also have a contract that I will ask you to sign. This covers things such as expectations and boundaries to ensure that we work together as well as we possibly can. There will be plenty of time to ask questions if you need to.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
