About me

Hi, I'm Dawn Monagle. At my practice, Riverside Counselling, I provide a safe and confidential space where you can bring whatever is troubling you. Perhaps you’re feeling limited by your anxiety, struggling with depression, having relationship issues, or feeling a bit sad and confused about life. Together we will work through what is troubling you, gently, at your pace.

If you’ve experienced loss of any kind – from bereavement through to job loss – I will help you process what has happened. If you’re stuck in a rut or simply feel life could be better, I will help you to work out what you want and support you to make changes.

I'm aware that seeking help is a big step for many people, so I would encourage you to make the initial introductory call and see how you feel after that.

Some ways that counselling can help: you will learn to tune into your feelings and get to know yourself on a deeper level. This can include how past life events have impacted you and may still be affecting you now.  Counselling can help you to develop a kinder, more positive relationship first with yourself and then with others. My aim is to empower you to develop your ‘internal counsellor’ so that you can move forward in life with more self-understanding, self-compassion and confidence.

At Riverside Counselling you can choose the type of session that feels right for you and fits in with your lifestyle: face-to-face sessions at my therapy rooms in Ware or Hoddesdon, phone or Zoom sessions from the comfort of your own home or Walk & Talk sessions in Broxbourne and surrounding areas.

I am now also offering sessions from Camden Therapy Rooms, NW1.

Training, qualifications & experience

I’m a Registered Member of the BACP and have an Integrative Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling. I have specialist training in delivering online counselling and provided remote counselling sessions by Zoom and by phone throughout the Covid pandemic.

As part of my training, I worked for CCIWBS, a London bereavement charity where I am still a volunteer counsellor, and Future Living Hertford, a domestic violence and addiction charity. Continuing training is an important part of my practice to enable me to keep up with the latest developments in counselling and offer the best service to my clients.

I have regular supervision and adhere to the BACP’s professional code of ethics. I place client care and confidentiality at the forefront of my practice.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Testimonials from Riverside Counselling clients:

"Dawn was amazing. A great listener and I felt so at ease talking difficult things over with her. She never pushed me. She naturally encouraged me to speak and open up. Dawn is in my opinion a highly commendable counsellor and I can see that she would have helped so many and will also continue to do so for many more."

"Dawn had so much empathy, that she made me feel very safe and able to express my distress without embarrassment. I was assured and comforted by her feedback and she listened, which I so needed."

"Dawn was really understanding and empathetic and a great listener too. Highly recommended and thank you."
