About me

Hello, I'm David, a qualified person-centred counsellor and registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP).

I offer counselling for adults at Chestnut Tree Counselling, a welcoming, private practice in Formby, Merseyside.

Life can sometimes feel overwhelming. You may be experiencing anxiety, grief, loss, difficulties in your relationships, or simply feeling that something isn't quite right. Whatever has brought you here, taking that first step towards counselling can feel daunting.

I believe that every person's story is unique and deserves to be heard.

My approach is person-centred, which means I offer you the time, space and attention to explore whatever is troubling you, at your own pace, without judgement or pressure.

I have a particular interest in bereavement and loss, men's mental health, anxiety and the challenges that life can bring.

At Chestnut Tree Counselling, my aim is to provide a warm, genuine and confidential environment where you can feel comfortable being yourself.

I offer face-to-face counselling in Formby, alongside online and telephone sessions.

Training, qualifications & experience

I hold a Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling and am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP).

I have completed approximately 400 hours of supervised counselling practice, working with adults experiencing a wide range of emotional and personal difficulties.

My experience includes providing counselling through Liverpool Bereavement Service, supporting people navigating grief, loss and significant changes in their lives.

I work from a person-centred approach, grounded in empathy, authenticity and unconditional positive regard.

I am committed to ongoing professional development, regularly undertaking additional training to broaden my knowledge and strengthen my practice.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
