About me

Welcome to my counselling and psychotherapy practice. You are here because something in your life is troubling or challenging. I am here to help you.

Your maybe experiencing difficult or challenging feelings such as depression, anxiety, anger, family issues, trauma, frustration, panic or a deep sense of loss?

You may have a sense that things are not right in your life at the moment and you can't quite work out why this might be?

It may be that an important relationship in your life may be uncomfortable or at a serious point of crisis? This may be separation or possible divorce from your partner or a different difficult family issue.

This may be the time to talk and work confidentially with a professional counsellor such as myself who accepts you without judgement and is able to provide a really helpful and safe space to help you to think, reflect and work through your situation.

I have significant experience working with people facing many difficult and urgent problems. I aim at all times to nurture a calming and thoughtful relationship as we work together. I provide a confidential, professional and peaceful environment in an ideal setting for you to discuss your worries and concerns.

As counsellor and therapist I strongly believe that we all have the potential and capacity to make changes in our lives. This can often feel difficult if not impossible. Being there in the room with a genuine wish for either more understanding or simply being heard can make all of the difference Our early relationships and experiences have shaped the person we have become, BUT, the relationship with a counsellor therapist such as myself provides the opportunity and potential to discuss any issues and problems safely and respectfully. Or to put it simply the opportunity to put something right.

My website www.davidmtherapy.co.uk provides more details of my counselling and therapy practice.

If you feel that now is the time to try a new approach in your life please get in touch by email and phone ( talk or text) to discuss your situation or make an appointment.

I have many years experience in private practice and I also work with referrals from local GP surgeries.

There is a dedicated parking space, a very close multi storey car park and close bus routes. There is wheelchair access if it is needed.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a Registered and Accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy and have been working professionally with clients since 2005

I am fully qualified and experienced in counselling and psychotherapy and have an MA in Psychotherapy and Healing from Middlesex University 2005.

I am fully engaged in Continuing Professional Development ( CPD) and this has included work in the following areas: Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness, Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) The latest of these which is ongoing is in Psychoanalytic Energy Psychotherapy (PEP) developed by Phil Mollon which seeks to acknowledge and use both the methods of talking therapy and the energy in the body.

In a previous life I have spent over 30 years as a teacher primarily in London. This is invaluable when working in counselling/therapy with clients who are highly stressed, anxious and often depressed struggling to cope with the demands of twenty first century living.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Key details

Wheelchair user access info
Wheelchair user access

Wheelchair-accessible premises should have step-free access for wheelchair users and individuals who are unable to climb stairs. If a Counsellor's premises aren't step-free, they may offer alternative services such as telephone/web-based appointments, home visits, or meeting clients in different location, so you can choose the option that suits you best.

You can contact the Counsellor to discuss the options available.

Under the Equality Act 2010 service providers have a duty to make reasonable adjustments to ensure that individuals with disabilities can access their service. You can read more about reasonable adjustments to help you to access services on the CAB website.

My consulting room is upstairs. It may be possible to arrange alternative accommodation on the ground floor of the building.
