I'm informal , friendly and real. I'm kind ,empathic and care about my clients, and I don't mind swearing, which is useful, because people often do...
I am an Integrative Counsellor, which means I knit together a range of ideas and techniques that I have gathered from 25 years of working in the Therapeutic field. I work with most issues that people seek Counselling for, like anxiety, depression and life changes, and the area that I specialize in is around relationship. This may be for individuals who are experiencing challenges that they wish to work with around partners, family or work, or in relationship to themselves, like self-esteem, identity or purpose.
I work a lot with couples, helping with tensions, blocks, intimacy, communication and difficult repeating patterns that can benefit from fresh perpspective and reflection.
How I work, can be generalized by breaking it down into 3 areas..
Talking - helps to unjumble the big glob that it sometimes feels like when we get overwhelmed or stuck. It's lovely to express freely with no judgement then we can lay things out and start to get some perspective, and I help with insights, feedback and new approaches.
Management and action - We may discuss ways to help deal with stress, anxiety, or difficult feelings. I help you create a plan for change that you can start acting on. This might be in new ways of communicating our needs and feelings, or creating boundaries. You might try things out and then come back where we can review how things went and anything that came up.
Inner work - For those that want help in healing the past, or with deeper issues, such as patterns of difficulty that keep repeating, (which often comes up in relationships).
We may be carrying past events, and finding it difficult to move on, or we may be affected by old beliefs systems that seem to hold us back from the life we are now trying to create. I help in unravelling the past, and finding fresh perspective, and provide the right tools and processes to help you move forward in a new way.
This is never pushed, and we always discuss it to find the individual way of exploring things.

Covid update 10/1/21
Due to the current Covid situation, working face to face is obviously difficult. I have been working mainly online since last March. Sometimes clients are a little nervous of working online at first, but then soon find out it works really well. I myself thought somethings might be difficult with this format, but have been pleasantly surprised. I like to think that my informal approach helps to set people at ease quickly.
When the covid rules allow, I work from quiet and cosy private rooms in Totnes, and central Exeter.
I am available for daytime and evening sessions.
You set the pace and determine the frequency of sessions, and how many.

I also do Telephone sessions, and can possibly do home sessions in the event of a disability. (Currently suspended due to the Covid rules )
Individuals - University Students, Trainee Counsellors - £30
Low waged, and Single parents - £35, Higher waged £40
Couples - £40-£50 depending on income

Training, qualifications & experience
- Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling - CPCAB
- PGCE Plymouth University
- BA Hons Plymouth University
- Facilitator of mixed Talking Groups for over 20 years.
- Facilitator of Mindlfulness in Movement workshops for 20 years.
- Previously a Family worker for several years.
- I am a qualified Tai Chi and Qigong Teacher. This is useful for being able to share breathing, relaxation techniques, and energy exercises if you want.
- I have an Enhanced DBS check.
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.
Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.
All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
