About me

Choosing a counsellor can be a big step which can feel daunting. How do you find the therapist who will be right for you? If you are new to counselling, the various theoretical approaches listed by counsellors can be confusing. What feels more important than the theory is the relationship, as we all exist in the presence of others, and it is the relational context which is the foundations of my work.

I'm a fully qualified counsellor, trained primarily in Person-Centred Therapy but I am flexible in my approach and draw on other types of therapy, which centres around you as an individual rather than a set of symptoms. If you need a more practical approach, we can include creative approaches and psychoeducation.

How can I help?

Difficult life experiences, traumas or current life issues can affect our mental well-being or interpersonal relationships at any time in our lives, which we may find unmanageable. Counselling can help you to understand why you’re feeling and behaving the way you do and help unpick what is going on for you in the here and now, including the anxiety that can occur when these are confronted. I offer the opportunity to both adults and young people, to explore your emotions and thoughts in a safe and confidential space.

I do not claim to hold all the answers, but I will work with you in a non-directive and supportive ways so that over time you can begin to understand yourself in a more authentic, and meaningful way. This may include re-connecting to your unique identity or being able to re-create yourself as life’s meanings change.

My interests lie in childhood and adult trauma, bereavement, therapeutic work with masculinity, stress, depression, low self-worth, anxiety and the impact these have on everyday life.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have worked within the charity and education sector delivering counselling to both adults and young people experiencing a host of mental health challenges. Alongside private practice I currently work for an independent welfare charity providing support to those who work in stressful, high pressure and traumatic work environments. Before becoming a counsellor, I spent many years in education system as a teacher.

·         BA Hons in Person-Centred Counselling from the University of Warwick

I am also member of the industry body, the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and adhere to the BACP ethical code of practice.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
